Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which vocalist will always be associated with "Bohemian Rhapsody"?

Answer: Freddie Mercury

"Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen may be one of the most played songs on the planet, and with its switch between operatic section and hard rock passage it is certainly one of the most well known. Originally released in 1975 as a single, against the advice of the record company, it was re released in 1991 following the death of Mercury and became the first record to top the UK charts twice with identical versions as well as the first record to be UK Christmas number one with identical versions.
2. Who can never escape singing "Stairway To Heaven"?

Answer: Robert Plant

Led Zeppelin's "Stairway To Heaven" from their untitled 1971 album is a rock classic, if not the ultimate rock classic. Co-written by Jimmy Page and Plant, the song is still one of the most requested on American rock radio stations, over 40 years after its debut and is instantly recognisable to rock fans around the globe.
3. "Sledgehammer" will always be associated with which solo vocalist, even though he's no angel?

Answer: Peter Gabriel

Peter Gabriel left the band Genesis in 1975 and only had to wait 11 years for a global smash when "Sledgehammer" went to number one in USA and Canada as well as top ten in Germany, UK, Australia, Italy and many other countries. In 1987, the video for "Sledgehammer" was nominated for ten MTV awards and won an incredible nine of them, the first time a video had swept the board in such a fashion.
4. Even from a distance, you can stand in Trafalgar Square and see his "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain"

Answer: Willie Nelson

"Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" was first recorded as long ago as 1947 by Roy Acuff and has been recorded by many country stars since then, such as Slim Whitman, Hank Williams and John D. Loudermilk, but it is Willie's 1975 version that has come to be regarded as the definitive recording, even appearing in the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time as rated by "Rolling Stone" in 2004.
5. "Sweet Caroline" would love to have this on her finger. She's precious and she rocks!

Answer: Neil Diamond

Diamond has said that he got the inspiration for the song from seeing Caroline Kennedy, daughter of John F. Kennedy and Jackie on a magazine cover when she was about six years old in 1957. In 2007, at a celebration for her 50th birthday, he got to sing the song to her personally, and in 2018, almost 50 years after the song was originally released it remains a staple of Diamond's repertoire.
6. You need more than a pair of pears to make this drink, but you can do it. Just "Don't Stop Believin'"

Answer: Steve Perry

Perry was vocalist with Journey from 1977 to 1998 and during that time sang on their most successful hits, such as "Who's Crying Now", "Open Arms", "When You Love A Woman" and of course "Don't Stop Believin'", which became the best selling digital download track of the 20th century.
7. Who would use tools such as because "(They Long To Be) Close To You"?

Answer: Karen Carpenter

"(They Long To Be) Close To You" was written by Bacharach and David and originally released in 1963 by Richard Chamberlain. It was also recorded by Dionne Warwick but it is the Carpenters' version from 1970, with Karen's amazing voice, that is the best known by far.

It peaked at number one in USA, Canada and Australia and reached the top ten in UK and Ireland. Karen sadly died in 1983, aged just 32 as a result of heart failure caused by anorexia nervosa.
8. Which part of a ship would one use to avoid ending "Up On Cripple Creek"?

Answer: Levon Helm

"Up On Cripple Creek" was written by fellow member of The Band, Robbie Robertson but it is Helm's vocals that make the track. Although it has since been covered by artists such as Blackberry Smoke, The Oak Ridge Boys and Gomez, the stand out version is still the original. Apart from being a member of The Band, Helm was also a member of the first incarnation of Ringo Starr's All Starr Band in 1989, alongside Clarence Clemons, Joe Walsh, Billy Preston and Dr. John.
9. If you collect something "One Piece At A Time", you could save a lot of this.

Answer: Johnny Cash

Although Cash released tracks right up to his death in 2003, surprisingly, this 1976 novelty song was both his last Billboard Chart top 30 hit and his last Billboard Country Chart number one. The song tells the tale of a production line worker stealing car parts one piece at a time over many years, in order to build his own automobile, which is described as a "psychobilly Cadillac."
10. The perfect thing to give to that "Sweet Child O' Mine" would be this vocalist.

Answer: Axl Rose

From their 1987 debut album, "Appetite For Destruction", Guns N' Roses "Sweet Child O' Mine" was made for Axl's vocal style and although it has been covered by artists such as Taken By Trees and Sheryl Crow, no one can really compete with the original. Rose's lyrics were based on his feelings towards his girlfriend Erin Everly, daughter of The Everly Brothers star Don.
