Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Hughes & Kettner manufactures amps out of which country?

Answer: Germany

The Hughes & Kettner official website provides this information. There is also a video that says where they're based out of. In their catalogs, there is much information about their location and their products.
2. Hughes & Kettner has been creating amps for a long time. Which of the following amps made amp history for having fully programmable digital effects on an all tube amp?

Answer: Switchblade

Switchblade is a fully programmable amp with digital effects along with the Zantera. But the Zantera is not a tube amp. It uses digital modeling instead of valves as stated on the official Hughes & Kettner website.
3. The guitarist for the band Rush has a signature amp made by Hughes & Kettner. What model is that amp?

Answer: Triamp MK II

This amp is different in a few ways from the original. The front plexi-glass panel lights up neon purple instead of neon blue. The Alex Lifeson model has his signature inscibed on it.
4. The second generation of Hughes & Kettner amps are more advanced than the previous generation. One new feature on some of the amps, is the plexi-glass front panel that glows in several different neon colors depending on the model. Which of the following amps do not have this feature?

Answer: Statesman

Looking at all of the following amps, the Statesman is the only one without a plexi-glass front. If you look at some picture of the amps above, you'll see the Warp X has a red neon glow, the Triology has a dark blue neon glow and the Puretone has a light blue neon glow.
5. The Triamp MKII has how many footswitchable channels?

Answer: Six

Yes, it is called the Triamp, but that only means there are three amp sections on the amp. Each individual amp section has two channels making six channels total. Details come from the official website and I own one.
6. The Duotone has a switch that lets you decide if the amp pushes out 50 or 100 watts.

Answer: False

Only the Triamp has this feature. The Duotone is a 100 watt amp, but only the Triamp features the "Halfpower" switch. The Puretone has a similar feature, but it is a power soak switch.
7. How many preamp tubes does a Triamp MKII have?

Answer: Nine

The Triamp MKII's spec sheet says that it uses 12AX7 preamp tubes. There are 13 tubes total, including four power amp tubes which are called EL34's.
8. In some of Hughes & Kettner's all tube amps, there is a space reserved on the backside for a "Midi" module. What is the name of this module?

Answer: MSM-1

The MSM-1 module has to be bought separately. The manuals for the amps that are MSM-1 compatible suggest a certified technician to install this module.
9. When the guitarist of Rush made his signature Triamp through Hughes & Kettner, he also had a custom speaker cabinet made to match his new amp. What model cabinet was that?

Answer: CC412 A 30

If you look at the back of an Alex Lifeson signature cabinet, you'll see the only difference between his cabinet and the standard CC412 A 30 is the covering. The specs are exactly the same. If you look at both of the spec sheets, the only difference is the Alex Lifeson cabinet has a crocodile covering.
10. Hughes & Kettner designed a collector's item. It is not for the use of a guitar. What was the item?

Answer: Tube Clock

The tube clock is a clock designed to look like a Hughes & Kettner amp head. It has the same plexi glass front panel that glows, but the tubes behind it glow as well. They just tell the time.
