The notes which are on the staves from bottom to top are E, G, B, D, F. Notes can be either on the line of the stave or in the space on a stave.
2. What is an interval?

Answer: The distance between two notes

Intervals are counted from the higher note to the lower note, the lower note being counted as one. The smallest interval which is used in Western music is half a step.
3. A series of eight notes played consecutively is known as a what?

Answer: Scale

Scales can be major, minor or natural. Each kind of scale uses different interval steps to differentiate the sound from the other two types of scales.
4. What does it mean to crescendo?

Answer: Gradually get louder

This is an Italian term and it used as a form of expression in music. The opposite to a crescendo is a decrescendo.
5. A dot placed above a note means to?

Answer: Play it short

The dot is also known as a staccato. A staccato is a type of articulation and other articulations include tenutos and accents.
6. How long does a minim last for in 4/4?

Answer: Two beats

A minim is also known as a half note, but this may change depending on the key signature. This is because the full note (also known as a semibreve) is held for four beats.
7. The time signature is located where on the music?

Answer: At the beginning of the piece

The time signature is indicated by a fraction. This fraction can be in many forms including 4/4 time, 6/8 time and many more. The upper number of this fraction tells the musician how many beats are in each bar.
8. What are the sharps and flats used for?

Answer: They indicate the main tone of the piece (key signature)

There are 15 major keys and 15 key signatures. Major keys are usually happy pieces and minor keys are usually sad pieces.
9. When you play a Harmonic Minor Scale what do you do?

Answer: Raise the 7th note

When you raise the 7th note it makes the harmonic scale sound Arabian. Because of the raised 7th it sets it apart from the major as the major has no raised notes and the melodic minor has the 6th and the 7th note raised.
10. How many notes are played in a scale (not including pentatonic or diatonic scales)?

Answer: Eight

All scales start and end on the tonic. Depending on whether it is minor or major etc depends on what is in the scale.
