Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who did the captain order to cut the cable in "Yellow Submarine"?

Answer: Sergeant

This children's song was originally included in the Beatles 1966 "Revolver" album. It surprisingly turned out to be the most important song, inspiring the cartoon feature film of the same name.
"We all live in a yellow submarine, yellow submarine, yellow submarine.
Full speed ahead Mr. Boatswain, full speed ahead, full speed ahead it is, sergeant cut the cable, drop the cable, aye, sir, aye, captain, captain."
2. What hair color is mentioned in the lyrics to "Only a Northern Song"?

Answer: Brown

Northern Songs Ltd. was a publishing company that handled all of the Beatles' material. John Lennon and Paul McCartney each owned 30% of the company with Ringo Starr and George Harrison receiving only a 1.6% share. George wrote this song as a complaint against the company for the unfair arrangement.
"It doesn't really matter what chords I play, what words I say or time of day it is, as it's only a Northern Song.
It doesn't really matter what clothes I wear, or how I fare or if my hair is brown, when it's only a Northern Song."
3. What color was not mentioned in the lyrics to "All Together Now"?

Answer: Purple

Written by Lennon and McCartney as a sing-a-long song, it was later used and sung at soccer games in England.
"All together now, all together now, all together now.
Black white green red, can I take my friend to bed, pink brown yellow orange and blue, I love you."
4. What was promised in return for "lend me your ears" in the song "With a Little Help From My Friends"?

Answer: A song

This song was borrowed from "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band" and was originally titled "Bad Finger Boogie".
"What would you think if I sang out of tune, would you stand up and walk out on me.
Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song, and I'll try not to sing out of key.
Oh, I get by with a little help from my friends, mm, I get high with a little help from my friends."
5. What kind of weapon was mentioned in "Hey Bulldog"?

Answer: Knife

This song came from some of John Lennon's unfinished lyrics. While originally mentioning a sheep dog and a bull frog, the song remained untitled until Paul McCartney began joking around and barking like a bull dog.
"What makes you think you're something special when you smile,
Childlike, no one understands, jack knife, in your sweaty hands, some kind of innocence is measured out in years.
You don't know what it's like to listen to your fears, you can talk to me, you can talk to me, you can talk to me."
6. What color was the sun in "It's All Too Much"?

Answer: Silver

This song was written by George Harrison from his experiences with LSD.
"It's all too much for me to take, the love that's shining all around you.
All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece but not too much, sell me on a silver sun, where I know that I'm free."
7. How were Lucy's eyes described in "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds"?

Answer: Kaleidoscope

In this John Lennon song, inspired by a painting by his young son Julian, we saw tangerine trees and marmalade skies as well as cellophane flowers and marshmallow pies.
"Picture yourself on a boat in a river, with tangerine trees and marmalade skies.
Somebody calls you, you answer quite slowly, a girl with kaleidoscope eyes."
8. For whom did "Nowhere Man" make plans?

Answer: Nobody

"Nowhere Man" was written by John Lennon to express his desperation and fear of not being able to finish the songs for the "Rubber Soul" album.
"He's a real nowhere man, sitting in his nowhere land, making all his nowhere plans for nobody.
Doesn't have a point of view, knows not where he's going to, isn't he a bit like you and me?"
9. Towards the end of "All You Need Is Love" the Beatles broke into a short chorus from one of their early hits. Which classic song was it?

Answer: She Loves You

John Lennon wrote this song for "Our World", a 1967 BBC two hour global television event. Simultaneously broadcast to 26 counties, the song was intended to be understood in any language.
"Love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need, love is all you need.
(She loves you, yeah, yeah yeah) love is all you need."
10. Where was the money kept in "Baby You're a Rich Man"?

Answer: Brown bag

John Lennon and Paul McCartney combined two unfinished songs and came up with "Baby You're a Rich Man". John was writing about long-haired hippies and free love in "One of the Beautiful People", and Paul was poking fun at their manager Brian Epstein whom the Beatles made a very rich man.
"Baby you're a rich man, baby you're a rich man, baby you're a rich man, too.
You keep all your money in a big brown bag, inside a zoo, what a thing to do."
