Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Name the female backup singer on Rush's "Time Stand Still" single.

Answer: Aimee Mann

This cutie was in her own band, 'Til Tuesday, (nice voice, too). (She appeared in the video for this tune in which she chased a "roaming" Rush all over the place.) Also a rarity for Rush since they let fewer people in the recording studio than Steely Dan!
2. On what LP would you find part 4 of "Fear" ?

Answer: Vapor Trails

Their 17th studio LP, 24th total, including 4 "Live", 2 "Retrospective", and 1 "Chronicles". They're still sounding good and re-inventing themselves. (No, I can't tell you where the other 3 parts are, I might need them for future quizzes.)
3. Name the track off of Bob & Doug McKenzie's comedy album in which Geddy Lee made an appearance.

Answer: Take Off

This one cracked me up when I first heard it. From the two guys from the "Great White North" who got their fame from their "SCTV" skits. They thanked Geddy for joining them for the tune in which Geddy replied, "Well, you know, ten bucks is ten bucks!" (Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas were the McKenzie brothers.)
4. Songwise, name Rush's shortest LP.

Answer: Hemispheres

Thats right, there are only 4 songs on "Hemispheres"! Take in to consideration, though, that the title track is over 18 minutes long ("Cygnus X-1, Book 2"), then "Circumstances" clocks in at 3:40, "The Trees", 4:42, and one of their awesome instrumental tunes, "La Villa Strangiato", 9:34.
5. "What you own is your own Kingdom, what you do is your own glory, what you love is your own power, what you live is your own story." Name that tune from Rush's fourth LP.

Answer: Something For Nothing

"You don't get something for nothing, you can't have freedom for free." This powerful anthem is from "2112" and definitely tells it like it really is, give it a listen.
6. "Bloodstained velvet, dirty lace, naked fear on every face. We see them bow their heads to die as we would bow as they roll by." Name this smoking number they used to open their concerts with.

Answer: Bastille Day

Yes, history, Bastille Day is celebrated on July 14th. This is off of "Caress Of Steel", their third release. This also includes, "Lakeside Park", "The Necromancer", "I Think I'm Going Bald".
7. OK, I'll try an easier one, this lyric is from what popular Rush song: "Each of us a cell of awareness, imperfect and incomplete. Genetic blends with uncertain ends, on a fortune hunt that's far too fleet..."

Answer: Freewill

Good song, good message. This is from "Permanent Waves", released in 1980 and also featured "The Spirit of Radio", "Natural Science", "Jacob's Ladder".
8. "A modest man from Mandrake travelled rich to the city. He had a need to discover a use for his newly-found wealth." Name the Rush song this line is from, please.

Answer: Cinderella Man

From their "A Farewell to Kings" LP. This song is about a kind, wealthy, unassuming man who wanted nothing more than to help less fortunate individuals and was labeled insane. This LP was released in 1977 and also includes "Closer To The Heart", "Xanadu", and the title track.
9. Name the video (and song) in which a young boy is featured riding a missle across the countryside.

Answer: Distant Early Warning

Cute little boy in this video. I wonder who's child this is riding a nuke all over the place (anyone know, please let me know).
10. "Pulling into Katmandu smoke rings fill the air, perfumed by a Nepal night the express gets you there." Name the tune this lyric is from.

Answer: A Passage To Bangkok

This tune is off their break-through LP, "2112". The band was on the brink of disaster prior to this phenominal LP. The record company was ready to give them the El-Bow, from what I have read. I for one am glad they stuck it out.
