Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. From which Rush song would you find the following lyrics: "You know how that rabbit feels, going under your speeding wheels"?

Answer: Between the Wheels

This song is from "Grace Under Pressure". It is generally considered a song about the way we run our lives, as many Rush songs are. The line "Another lost generation" is from a quote by Gertrude Stein used by Ernest Hemingway at the beginning of "The Sun Also Rises".
2. "Ragged lines of ragged gray, skeletons, they shuffle away" is a descriptive line from which song?

Answer: Red Sector A

Interestingly enough, in this song from "Grace Under Pressure", Geddy Lee never uses his bass; it's all synth. Geddy's parents were both Holocaust survivors, but it hasn't been determined if this song is about a Nazi camp, or a death camp in general.
3. "We can walk our road together, if our goals are all the same" is a lyric from which song?

Answer: Cygnus X-1 Book II: Hemispheres

"Cygnus X-1", a song about an actual black hole is the longest of the "epics", a full 30 minutes long, divided into 2 books, "The Voyage" and "Hemispheres". Quite a good song if you listen to the entire thing.
4. In what lively song does the line "Boys and girls together, let's paint the mirror black....the mirror always lies" appear?

Answer: War Paint

This song describes the different things boys and girls see in a mirror, and how the mirror's image isn't the true one.
5. "Then you learn the lesson that it's tough to be so cool" is a lesson from which song?

Answer: Kid Gloves

This song describes our early school days. It is a mockery on how we try to be "cool".
6. "The is tic and toc in atomic" comes from which song?

Answer: Anagram (For Mongo)

Most of the lines have two words, one of which has an anagram of some the letters of the other. For example, "There is no safe seat at the feast, Take your best stab at the beast, The night is turning thin, The saint is turning to sin". Mongo (used in the title) is a small joke in reference to the Mel Brooks' film "Blazing Saddles", which features a character named Mongo.
7. "I knew he was different in his sexuality, I went to his parties as a straight minority" are words from which song?

Answer: Nobody's Hero

This song is questioning our impressions of a hero. Neil Peart (Modern Drummer magazine, February 1994): "I had a lot of reflections over the last couple of years about the nature of heroism, what a 'role model' is supposed to be, and the differences between the two. That thought manifested itself in a song on the new album called 'Nobody's Hero.' A role model is obviously a very positive example of what can be accomplished, and it's what I think, with all humility and pride, Rush has been a good role model for other bands."
8. What song features Geddy Lee sing the words "I can't stand to reason, or surrender to a reflex"?

Answer: Freeze

This is the 4th song in the "Fear" trilogy.(not really a trilogy anymore) "Witch Hunt" is number 3. Number 2 is "The Weapon" and "The Enemy Within" is number 1"
9. "High on the sacred mountain, up the seven thousand stairs" are the actions described in which song?

Answer: Tai Shan

This was written while Neil Peart sat atop Tai Shan, a mountain in China. It is said that if you stand on it and raise your hands to the gods you will live 100 years. It really does have about 7000 stairs to the top of it.
10. I saved the best for last. My absolute favorite song of all time. I'm going to make it hard. What song has Geddy Lee singing the words of Neil Peart that go "I learned your love for life, I feel the way that you would, I feel your presence, I remember"?

Answer: Afterimage

As I said, I love this song. It's from "Grace Under Pressure". I think it's their most powerful song ever. This song is about the sudden loss of Robbie Whalen. He was a sound engineer on the Rush albums "Permanent Waves", "Exit Stage Left", "Moving Pictures", and "Signals".

He was killed in a car accident outside the Rush studios in northern Ontario in a snowstorm when leaving the studio one night.
