Answer: Bluegrass

Bluegrass, with roots in the Appalachian region of North America, falls under the overall genre of country music. The traditional form of this music consists mainly of folk songs played on acoustic instruments. There is also a more modern form called progressive bluegrass in which electric instruments are used. Fiddles and banjos may be used for creating bluegrass music.

Reggae music is believed to have developed in Jamaica in the 1960s. The influence of various other genres can be found in reggae. Early musical hits from this genre include "I Can See Clearly Now" by Johnny Nash and "Mother and Child Reunion" by Paul Simon.
3. Hidden Words: Find the music genre hidden in the sentence given below. With hope, Ravel finally presented "Bolero" to the audience in Paris.

Answer: Opera

...hOPE, RAvel...

The Opera is a part of the Western classical music tradition. Its origins can be traced to 16th century Italy when it first gained popularity as a medium for telling stories.

"Boléro" is a well known musical composition by Maurice Ravel. It premiered at the Paris Opéra on 22 November 1928 and went on to become so popular so as to be the most famous work by Ravel.
4. In Other Words: Try to figure out this music genre by the synonyms used to describe it. Weighted Chemical Element

Answer: Heavy Metal

Heavy metal falls under the rock genre of music. Over time, it has developed many sub-genres of its own like black metal, death metal and glam metal. Some of the early heavy metal bands include Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple. The music is characterized by loud guitars and drums and strong vocals.
5. Hidden Words: Find the music genre hidden in the sentence given below. Realising I'd be late for music class, I called my tutor to inform her.

Answer: Classical

...CLASS, I CALled...

Each culture has their own type of classical music which usually dates back to a particularly fruitful period in its music history. For example, Indian classical music can be divided into two main branches - Hindustani and Carnatic. Each type has distinct characteristics. Carnatic music is largely based in the southern parts of India and is more focussed on the vocals. Hindustani music is more prevalent in the northern part of India and exhibits Persian and Islamic influences.
6. Add a Letter: Add a letter to the word formed by the clue to get a music genre. Quip + K

Answer: Punk

Punk rock, often known simply as punk, is a loud and aggressive form of rock music. It encompasses various other styles which have since been segregated into their own sub-genres. Punk rock songs are usually fast and in the early days tended to have lyrics which made political points.

In the mid 1970s, bands like The Clash, Sex Pistols and the Ramones were at the forefront of this new music movement.
7. Cryptic: Solve the cryptic clue for the answer. Initially, Peter only played his tunes for friends.

Answer: Pop

The word initially in the clue indicates that the answer is found by taking the first letter of consecutive words.

Pop music emerged as a softer alternative to rock and roll. Though initially, the term pop music was used generically to refer to all kinds of popular music, it eventually developed certain distinct characteristics of its own. It tends to appeal a broad range of listeners and most songs under this genre have rhythms that make them suitable as dance tracks.
8. Missing Vowels: Fill in vowels appropriately to get the name of a type of music. JZZ

Answer: Jazz

The origins of jazz can be traced to the African-American community of America at the turn of the 20th century. With influences from blues, ragtime, classical and folk music, jazz has in turn influenced other modern forms like funk, reggae and ska. Since jazz spans a long period of time and has over the years developed various derivative forms, there are a multitude of sub-genres encompassed within this genre.

These include Latin jazz, gypsy jazz and New Orleans jazz, to name just a few.
9. In Other Words: Try to figure out this music genre by the synonyms used to describe it. Pelvic Skip

Answer: Hip Hop

Hip hop music and the associated culture developed in the 1970s among the mainly teenage African-American population of New York City, especially the Bronx borough. The subculture also includes DJing, graffiti writing and breakdancing. The practice of speaking in rhymes in tune with the beats then gave rise to rap music. "Rapper's Delight" by The Sugarhill Gang was the first single in this genre to receive widespread popularity.
10. Anagrams: Rearrange the capitalized letters to form a type of music. Don't try to strum the guitar while you RUN with the EGG.

Answer: Grunge

Grunge is sometimes also called Seattle Sound in a nod to its origins in the city of Seattle in Washington, USA. It is regarded as a derivative of the heavy metal and alternate rock music genres. The time span of this genre is relatively small having originated in the mid 1980s and almost phased out by the end of the 1990s.

Despite being short-lived, it has still left a notable impact on the popular culture scene. Nirvana, Soundgarden and Pearl Jam were bands of this genre that achieved a significant amount of popularity and fame.
