Answer: Pennsylvania

Boone was born in Pennsylvania on November 2, 1734 (November was the month once the Georgian calendar was adopted, but he always kept the Old Style date of October 22). It wasn't until 1769 that he and his brother went with John Finley to Kentucky.

Answer: twelve

Boone was trained by locals, both Europeans and Indians. One tale that became part of his image was of calmly shooting down a panther as it attempted to pounce on him.

A group of the settlers, including the boys, were getting supplies when attacked by a mixed band of Indians. The expedition was abandoned.

John Murray, 4th Earl of Dunmore, was the royal governor of the Colony of Virginia, and declared a state of war against the hostile Indians.

The Shawnees adopted Boone and gave him the name of Sheltowee (Big Turtle). However, when the Shawnees planned a raid on Boonesborough, Boone escaped and helped the defend the fort against the Indians. He was court-martialed for his efforts to keep the men alive by surrendering.

Boone was popular during his time in Limestone, which was renamed to Maysville, Kentucky, in 1786. John Filson, who had interviewed many Kentucky settlers, published "The Discovery, Settlement and Present State of Kentucke" in 1784 which included some of the tales of Boone's experiences.

In this territory a syndic was both judge and jury. Boone was syndic and commandant until the 1804 purchase of the Louisiana Territory. Boone once again lost his land when the purchase went through and it was not returned to him until 1814. The area was to become Missouri.

An exhumation in 1845 supposedly dug up the remains of both Daniel and Rebecca for reburial in Frankfort, Kentucky. Some say that the bodies exhumed were not the Boones and thus they are still buried in Missouri.

Answer: Boonville, New York

Boonville, New York was named for Gerrit Boon, of the Holland Land Company. There are many places named for Daniel, some were so named during his lifetime. For example, Kentucky created Boone County in 1798.
