British movie director Alfred Hitchcock, master of the thriller movie genre, passed away in 1980 from natural causes. Many credit Hitchcock with inventing thriller movies, and most acknowledge his brilliance in mixing humor, suspense, and sex into his movies.

He was a brilliant technician who paid attention to every aspect of his films. He was also known for his cameo appearances in many of his films. Finding him in these shots usually took a sharp eye from the movie-goer.

Colonel Harland Sanders was an American businessman who ran a popular Kentucky service station that also served food. His fried chicken was so popular that the Governor of Kentucky honored him with the designation of a "Kentucky Colonel", which is the highest civilian award given by the state.

While many fans knew Jimmy Durante a.k.a. The Schnoz, as a lovable entertainer, many were unaware that he was a skilled piano player and bandleader. Durante worked for years as a jazz musician before becoming the popular comedian loved by millions of Americans.

After the war he remarried and spent the remainder of his life in Switzerland. He is responsible for forming the Anne Frank Foundation, which is responsible for saving the building where he and his family had lived, which had been scheduled to be demolished.

He turned the building into a museum which is open to the general public, and draws millions of visitors each year. He died of lung cancer in 1980.
