Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The No. 1. The following verses from the NKJV, written by Paul, contains the number 'one' seven different times: "There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all." Where do you find these famous verses in the New Testament?

Answer: Ephesians

The verses are found in Ephesians 4:4-6. The question is not difficult when you think things through as the question mentions the verses were written by Paul. That automatically rules out John and Revelation as correct answers. And considering Philemon is a letter consisting of only 25 verses and is a plea to the owner of a run-away slave to accept his slave back as an equal in Christ, it's highly unlikely such verses would be found there.

Ephesians appears after Galatians and before Philippians in the New Testament of the English Bible.
2. The No. 2. Genesis 4:19 tells of the first polygamous relationship in the Bible with a man having two wives -- Adah and Zillah. What was the man's name?

Answer: Lamech

Lamech is the correct answer. In addition to being the first polygamist, Lamech was the second murderer in the Bible, after Cain. In fact, the account of the murder he committed is contained in Genesis 4, the same chapter which tells of Cain killing Abel.
3. The No. 3. What highly-distressed man was visited by three friends who attempted to comfort him?

Answer: Job

The correct answer is Job. His three friends Eliphaz, Bildad and Zophar visited Job after he was clobbered by all sorts of problems -- everything from losing his immense wealth to his seven sons and three daughters. (A fourth man, Elihu, would visit Job later.) However, it seems his friends didn't offer any comfort and generally made things worse for Job.

Job 1:2 states Job had seven sons and three daughters and he owned seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys making him "the greatest of all the people of the East." Then, it was all taken away from him. Despite his immense heart-breaking losses, Job remained true to God, Scripture states.

The book of Job has a happy ending, however. Job 42:12-17 states: "Now the LORD blessed the latter days of Job more than his beginning; for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, one thousand yoke of oxen, and one thousand female donkeys. He also had seven sons and three daughters. And he called the name of the first Jemimah, the name of the second Keziah, and the name of the third Keren-Happuch. In all the land were found no women so beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them an inheritance among their brothers. After this Job lived one hundred and forty years, and saw his children and grandchildren for four generations. So Job died, old and full of days."
4. The No. 4. According to Matthew 4:18-22, Jesus appointed four fishermen to be His disciples. Who comprised the group of four?

Answer: Peter, Andrew, James and John

The four fishermen were Peter, Andrew, James and John. Matthew 4:18-22 tells of the four leaving their jobs as fishermen to follow Jesus. The passage in the NKJV states: "And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

Then He said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.' They immediately left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there, He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets.

He called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed Him."
5. The No. 5. Scripture tells of Jesus using five loaves of bread, in part, to feed a multitude. How many men did Jesus feed with the five loaves, as per Matthew 14:21?

Answer: 5,000

According to Matthew 14:21, Jesus fed 5,000 men with five loaves, as well as two fish. However, theologians believe Jesus actually fed as many as 15,000 people with the pittance of food. The 5,000 figure includes only men and not the women and children who were part of the multitude that had come to see Him. As per the custom of the day, women and children were not included in census figures and the like. On top of all this, Scripture tells of the disciples filling twelve baskets with the fragments of food left over.

Matthew 5:19-22, in the NKJV, states: "Then He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass. And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, He blessed and broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes. So they all ate and were filled, and they took up twelve baskets full of the fragments that remained. Now those who had eaten were about five thousand men, besides women and children."
6. The No. 6. It was about the sixth hour of the day when Peter went up to a rooftop to pray and he had a vision, Scripture states. According to Acts 10:9-16, what did Peter see in his vision during the sixth hour of the day?

Answer: A great sheet bound at the four corners, descending with all kinds of animals, wild beasts, creeping things and birds.

In Peter's vision, he saw "a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending with all kinds of animals, wild beasts, creeping things and birds."

Here's how the account is told in Acts 10:9-16:
"The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour. Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And a voice came to him, 'Rise, Peter; kill and eat.' But Peter said, 'Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.' And a voice spoke to him again the second time, 'What God has cleansed you must not call common.' This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again."

Notes in the NKJV Study Bible offer this explanation of the passage:
"While his host was preparing the noon meal, Peter fell into a trance during which he was commanded to kill and eat all kinds of animals, reptiles and birds. The problem was that the animals were mixed: clean and unclean beasts were gathered together (see Leviticus 11). Jewish people were taught from childhood never to touch or to eat any animal that was unclean. However, here Peter was being commanded by God to do just that. Three times God corrected Peter's resistance with the words, 'what God has cleansed you must not call common.' Food may have been his first consideration, but Peter would soon understand the greater message. The vision was a sign from heaven that Jews were no longer to call Gentiles unclean. From that point on, these two groups would be on equal footing before the Father. God was breaking down Peter's prejudices."

Scripture goes on to tell of Peter, while considering the vision, three men approached him asking him to go to the house of Cornelius, a Roman centurion, to provide instruction to Gentile believers. (Cornelius had his own vision in which he was told to seek out Peter to provide instruction.)

Scripture concludes with Peter going to the household of Cornelius with a number of Gentiles being baptized.

With Gentiles being freely admitted into the early church, the world would never be the same again.
7. The No. 7. According to Mark 16:9, what woman had seven demons driven out of her by Jesus?

Answer: Mary Magdalene

The correct answer is Mary Magdalene. Mark 16:9, as well as Luke 8:2, state Jesus had driven seven demons out of Mary. However, no details are given with the verses simply stating the demons had been driven out previously. Notes in the NKJV Study Bible state the fact Jesus had driven seven demons out of Mary "would explain her strong devotion to Him."

8. The No. 8. Eight days after Jesus appeared to the disciples who were assembled in a room, He made another appearance, as per John 20:24-29. At the second appearance, there was a doubting disciple present who had been absent when Jesus appeared eight days previously. Who was the disciple who was present for the second appearance?

Answer: Thomas

Thomas, of course, is the correct answer. He will be forever known as 'Doubting Thomas' because he stubbornly refused to believe reports from the other disciples about seeing the resurrected Jesus. In John 20:25, Thomas is quoted as saying, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."

John 20:26-29 tells of Thomas seeing the resurrected Christ and declaring Him as his "Lord and God". Here's how the passage reads in the NKJV:
"And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, 'Peace to you!' Then He said to Thomas, 'Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing.' And Thomas answered and said to Him, 'My Lord and my God!' Jesus said to him, 'Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed'."
9. The No. 9. Luke 17:11-19, tells of a man falling at Jesus' feet and profusely thanking Him with Jesus asking him "where are the nine?" What miraculous event does this passage make reference to?

Answer: The cleansing of the ten lepers

The correct answer is 'the cleansing of ten lepers'. The account of Jesus healing the ten lepers is found in Luke 17:11-19. However, Scripture reports only one of the lepers, a Samaritan, returned to Jesus to offer thanks for the miracle. It's at this point Jesus asked where were the nine who were cleansed, but did not return to give thanks.
10. The No. 10. According to Exodus 20:1-17, what is the tenth commandment?

Answer: You shall not covet.

The correct answer is you shall not covet.

Here are the ten commandments in their entirety as they appear in Exodus 20:1-17 in the NKJV:

"And God spoke all these words, saying:
'I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.

'You shall not make for yourself a carved image-any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

'You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

'Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you.

'You shall not murder.

'You shall not commit adultery.

'You shall not steal.

'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

'You shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's'."
