Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who spoke the following words to Israel? "How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him."

Answer: Elijah

Elijah called the prophets of Baal to meet him on Mount Carmel to see whose God was the true God. The prophets of Baal called on their God from morning until noon, but there was no response. Then Elijah poured out twelve jars of water onto the altar and the bull.

Then fire from the Lord fell and burned up the sacrifice. After this, Elijah had the prophets of Baal slaughtered in the Kishon Valley. You can read the full account in 1 Kings 18:21-40 (NIV).
2. Who said to Elijah, "Is that you, you troubler of Israel?"?

Answer: Ahab

"Ahab went to meet Elijah. When he saw Elijah, he said to him, 'Is that you, you troubler of Israel?' 'I have not made trouble for Israel,' Elijah replied. 'But you and your father's family have. You have abandoned the Lord's commands and have followed the Baals.'" 1 Kings 18:17-18 (NIV) Ahab was a king in Israel.
3. Who prophesied before three kings while being accompanied by a harpist?

Answer: Elisha

The king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. So the kings of Israel, Judah and Edom, banded together to conspire against Moab. They called on the prophet Elisha so that they might inquire of the Lord through him. "While the harpist was playing, the hand of the Lord came upon Elisha" (2 Kings 3:13-15).
4. Who cast a bowl of salt into springs of water?

Answer: Elisha

"The men of the city said to Elisha, 'Look, our lord, this town is well situated, as you can see, but the water is bad and the land is unproductive.' 'Bring me a new bowl,' he said, 'and put salt in it.' So they brought it to him. Then he went out to the spring and threw the salt into it, saying, 'This is what the Lord says: "I have healed this water. Never again will it cause death or make the land unproductive."'" (2 Kings 2:19-21).

The city was Jericho.
5. What was the name of Elisha's father?

Answer: Shaphat

"So Elijah went from there and found Elisha son of Shaphat. He was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen, and he himself was driving the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak around him. Elisha then left his oxen and ran after Elijah" (1 Kings 19: 19-20). Elijah was already a prophet by this time.
6. Who cried because he knew the harm that Hazael of Syria would do to Israel?

Answer: Elisha

"The man of God [Elisha] began to weep. 'Why is my lord weeping?' asked Hazael. 'Because I know the harm you will do to the Israelites,' he answered. 'You will set fire to their fortified places, kill their young men with the sword, dash their little children to the ground, and rip open their pregnant women.'" (2 Kings 8:11-12). Hazael was a king of Syria, and would later attack Israel in 2 Kings 12:17.
7. What king of Israel was told by Elisha to shoot an arrow through an open window?

Answer: Joash

Joash, the king of Israel, went to see Elisha to inquire about going to war against the Arameans. Elisha told Joash to open the east window and shoot the arrow. So he shot! Then Elisha said, "The Lords arrow of victory, the arrow of victory over Aram!" 2 Kings 13:14-17 (NIV)
8. Who asked Elisha to forgive him for worshipping in the house of the god Rimmon?

Answer: Naaman

Elisha's God cured Naaman of his leprosy, and Naaman wanted to repay Elisha with a gift. But Elisha wouldn't accept anything from him. Naaman said to him, "But may the Lord forgive your servant for this one thing: When my master enters the temple of Rimmon to bow down and he is leaning on my arm and I bow down there also - when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord forgive your servant for this." (2 Kings 5:17-18)
9. When Elijah called down fire from heaven, whom did the fire fall on and consume?

Answer: The army of Ahaziah

Ahaziah had injured himself, so he sent his messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, to see if he would recover from his injury. But Elijah met the messengers and told them that because Ahaziah had inquired of the god of Ekron, he would certainly die. So Ahaziah sent a captain and a company of fifty men to tell Elijah to come to him. "Elijah answered the captain, 'If I am a man of God, may fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men!'" Then fire fell from heaven and consumed the captain and his men" (2 Kings 1:2-14).
10. Who prophesied that Jezebel would be eaten by dogs?

Answer: Elijah

Elijah said to Ahab, "I will make your house like that of Jeroboam son of Nebat and Baasha son of Ahijah, because you have provoked me to anger and have caused Israel to sin. Also concerning Jezebel the Lord says: 'Dogs will devour Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel'" (1 Kings 21:22-23). Jezebel was Ahab's wife.
