Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This man was sick for quite some time and died before Jesus arrived. When Jesus arrived however, he immediately raised him from the dead.

Answer: Lazarus

Lazarus and his sisters, Mary and Martha, were very close friends of Jesus. When Lazarus became ill, his sisters immediately sent for Jesus but he did not come until days later, when Lazarus had already died. However, Jesus raised him from the dead upon arrival. The story of Lazarus can be found in John 11.
2. This man baptized Jesus.

Answer: John

Actually, John is more popularly referred to as 'John the Baptist'. Not only did he baptize Jesus, but he was his cousin as well - Luke 3:15-23. He was killed by King Herod when he was still in his early thirties.
3. She asked to be called 'Mara' because of her depression.

Answer: Naomi

Naomi had lost first her husband and then both her sons. Being heartbroken by their deaths, she asked her friends to call her 'Mara', which means 'Bitter'. Because their husbands had died, Naomi's daughters-in-law, Ruth and Orpah, were given the chance to go back to their home countries to be with their people. Orpah reluctantly left but Ruth, in an act of companionship and devotion, remained behind with Naomi.

This may be found in Ruth 1:3 and 20.
4. She inadvertently influenced King David to commit indirect murder because of his love for her.

Answer: Bathsheba

David instantly became attracted to Bathsheba when he saw her bathing outside his window. He later found out that she was married to Uriah, a soldier in the army. To get rid of Uriah, David sent word to him at battle that he should be positioned in the front line, where fighting was fiercest. Even though David did not murder Uriah himself, he was responsible for his death.

This story is found in 2 Samuel 11.
5. She deprived a man of all his strength simply by having his hair cut.

Answer: Delilah

Because Samson loved Delilah, he eventually gave her the secret of his strength. Because of this, God left him and he was eventually defeated. The story of Samson and Delilah is found in Judges 16.
6. Which Bible character was swallowed by a great fish?

Answer: Jonah

God had sent Jonah to preach to the people of Nineveh but Jonah tried to run away by taking a boat headed in the opposite direction. Soon after, there was a great storm at sea which threatened to capsize the boat. In an attempt to prevent this from happening, Jonah ordered the people to throw him overboard.

When they did, he was promptly swallowed by a great fish. The story of Jonah can be found in the book of Jonah, near the end of the Old Testament.
