Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After getting married to the "unfaithful" woman, Gomer, Hosea had his first child. What did he name that child in verse 4 of chapter 1?

Answer: Jezreel

Jezreel means "God plants", while Lo-Ammi means "not my people", and Lo-Ruhamah means "not pitied". These three were all names of his children.
2. Why did God say He was against the priests in Chapter 4?

Answer: They were blaming others, while they had no right to, and they were no longer concerned with doing God's work.

He said they would be punished because "No one should accuse or blame another person." (Hosea 4:4)
3. In chapter 4, verse 12, who did God say the people were asking for advice?

Answer: Idols

"My people ask wooden idols for advice; they ask those sticks of wood to advise them!" (Hosea 4:12)
4. In Hosea 4:16, what did God call Israel?

Answer: Stubborn

He compared Israel to a "stubborn calf".
5. In Hosea 5:14, God said he would be like what animal to Israel and Judah?

Answer: Lion

He said he would "attack them and tear them to pieces. I will drag them off, and no one will be able to save them."
6. What animal did God say Israel had turned into in Hosea 7:11?

Answer: Dove

Hosea 7:11: "Israel has become like a dove (or pigeon)- easy to fool and stupid. First they run to Egypt for help. Then they run to Assyria."
7. Fill in the missing words in Hosea 9:16: "Israel is beaten down; ________"

Answer: its root is dying, and it has no fruit.

The verse finishes off with "If they have more children, I will kill the children they love."
8. Which ancestor did God remind the Israelites of in Hosea 12:13?

Answer: Jacob

"Your ancestor Jacob fled to Northwest Mesopotamia where he worked to get a wife; he tended sheep to pay for her."
9. Which of these lines is not said in chapter 13? (New Century Version)

Answer: Will I watch as death consumes you?

This chapter pretty much describes the wrath of God for Israel's sins. The lines I quoted are from verse 14.
10. The last phrase said in this book in the New Century Version Bible is "The Lord's ways are right. Good people live by following them, but those who turn against God die because of them." Is that statement true or false? (Note: other translations say the wicked will suffer, not that they will die.)

Answer: True

This phrase pretty much sums up the entire book. The book is mainly about the justice that God said He would take out on Israel for its sins.
