Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who is Samuel's father?

Answer: Elkanah

Samuel 1:18-20 (KJV) "And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad. And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the Lord, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the Lord remembered her. Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, because I have asked him of the Lord." Hannah was Samuel's mother.

Her name means full of hope.
2. Who was Samuel's oldest child?

Answer: Joel

I Samuel 8:2 (KJV) "Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba." Joel means "Yahweh is God". Beersheba still exists in Israel today, however the modern one is slightly south of the Biblical one.
3. Who was the king of Amalek when Saul's army fought it?

Answer: Agag

I Samuel 15:20 (KJV) "And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and have gone the way which the Lord sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites." Although Saul captured him, it was Samuel who had Agog killed.
4. Why was Saul rejected by God?

Answer: He rejected the word of God

I Samuel 15:23 (KJV) "For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the Lord, he hath also rejected thee from being king."
5. Who was the King of Gath according to I Samuel 21?

Answer: Achish

I Samuel 21:12 (KJV) "And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath." Gath is where the giant Goliath was from.
6. Did King David have a beard?

Answer: Yes

I Samuel 21:13 (KJV) "And he changed his behavior before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard." Back then, as well as today, it is common practice for men of the Middle East to wear beards.
7. Who was Abigail's husband?

Answer: Nabal

I Samuel 25:3 (KJV) "Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb." The name Nabal means fool.
8. Where did Saul go to find a woman that had "his spirit"?

Answer: Endor

I Samuel 28:7 (KJV) "Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor." A familiar spirit, I have found out, is not a soul mate or some such thing.

It is a witchcraft term, which involves a trance to contact the spirit. Many people believe this spirit is a demon of some sort.
9. How did Saul die?

Answer: Suicide

I Samuel 31:4 (KJV) "Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it." Saul was a coward and didn't want to face uncertain death, so he killed himself before the others could kill him.
10. What is the last word in I Samuel?

Answer: days

I Samuel 31:13 (KJV) "And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days." This story continues in II Samuel.
