Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the first word in John in the King James Version?

Answer: In

It says in John 1:1, "In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

John's book is different than the other three Gospels because he does not go into the lineage of Jesus, but rather tells everyone that God and Jesus are the same person, and Jesus has always existed.
2. John 3:16 is what many consider the main theme of the Bible, but who was Jesus speaking to specifically when He spoke the words in that verse?

Answer: Nicodemus

It says in John 3:4, "Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?"

Nicodemus was one of the Sanhedrin Pharisees. He showed favor toward Jesus.
3. What does Jesus say to search in John 5:39 (KJV)?

Answer: the scriptures

It says in John 5:39, "Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me."

Jesus often quotes the scriptures Himself.
4. In John 6:35 (KJV) Jesus says, "I am the bread of" what?

Answer: life

It says in John 6:35 "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst."

Bread was very important to the Jewish people, so He used this metaphor to tell them that He was all they needed.
5. In John 8:12 (KJV) Jesus says, "I am the _______ of the world." Finish the verse.

Answer: light

It says in John 8:12, "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."

Later in Revelation, when Heaven is described, it says it is always light, but there is no sun or moon or anything like that. Jesus's light is so bright it lights up all of Heaven.
6. What does Jesus say the good shepherd does?

Answer: Gives his life for his sheep.

It says in John 10:11 "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep."

Christians are considered Jesus's sheep because we are to follow Him.

Interestingly, Jesus himself was also referred to as the Lamb of God, because, like a lamb, He was sacrificed to make atonement for the sins of others.
7. How many days had Lazarus been dead when Jesus brought him back to life?

Answer: 4

It says in John 11:39, "Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days."

Lazarus was later targeted for murder by the chief priests in Bethany because of his notoriety after he was raised from the dead.
8. In John 15:13 (KJV) Jesus says, "greater love hath no man than" to what?

Answer: lay down his life for his friends

It says in John 15:13, "Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

Jesus said this knowing that He, Himself, would be soon giving up His own life for all sinners.
9. Which disciple was also known as Didymus?

Answer: Thomas

It says in John 20:24, "But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came."

The only time the name Didymus is used is in the Gospel of John.
10. According to the Gospel of John, how many times did Jesus appear to his disciples after He rose from the dead?

Answer: 3

It says in John 21:14, "This is now the third time that Jesus shewed himself to his disciples, after that he was risen from the dead."

Three is a very common number in the Bible, and we especially see it in the Gospels.

Peter denied Christ three times, Jesus asked Peter three times "Do you love Me?", Jesus was in the grave three days before he rose, and He appeared three times before ascending to Heaven. These are just a few times we see the number 3.
