Jonah knows God sent the storm, so Jonah tells the sailors to push him off the boat. Then a big fish swallows him. Jonah prays for a few days and God has the fish wash Jonah up on shore. Jonah praises God and goes to Nineveh.

The animal is described in the Bible as a big fish. Some believe that it was probably a whale, which we now know to be a mammal.
