Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What made the dinosaur Troodon so special?

Answer: Their complex brains

Amazingly, the part of the brain in Troodon devoted to thought processes is huge, more developed than any other dinosaur. Aside from that, it had the highest brain-body ratio of any dinosaur as well as one of the most well-developed occipital lobes, or the part that had to do with visual information processing. This means that Troodon could well have the ability to see well in the dark.
2. What was a difference seen in dinosaurs that had lived on islands compared to dinosaurs on the mainland?

Answer: They are smaller

As there are far less resources on islands compared to the mainland, dinosaurs had to get smaller to compensate for less food. Fossils have been found of titanosaurs barely 7m long compared to their 25m long relatives. Studies have shown that these dwarf sauropods were all adults and the area which they had died 85 million years ago had once been an island.
3. Which part of Aucasaurus's anatomy was similar to that of T-Rex's?

Answer: Its puny arms

The arms of Aucasaurus, an abelisaur, were so small that their fingers were probably the same size as a human's. This medium-sized theropod stalked the early cretaceous Argentina and hunted in a peculiar manner. With small, sharp teeth and a weak lower jaw, it probably used its jaws to slash instead of crush, and probably bled its prey to death.
4. How tall, approximately, did Velociraptor stand when running? (Note, this does not ask about body LENGTH).

Answer: 0.7 meters

Although the Velociraptor depicted in Jurassic Park stood eye to eye with a human, it stood almost horizontally and thus its actual height was barely up to a human's waist.
5. Which of these was the earliest ceratopsian to have brow horns (the horns above the head)?

Answer: Zuniceratops

A very lightweight species, Zuniceratops proved that brow horns in ceratopsians evolved in North America rather than Asia.
6. Which of these stegosaurs were found in the Cretaceous Period?

Answer: Wuerhosaurus

One of the last stegosaurs, this species had long, low plates and had a more stout body shape. It survived in China until well into the age of ankylosaurs.
7. What was a nickname of Cryolophosaurus?

Answer: Elvisaurus

With a crest like the hair of famous singer Elvis Presley, it was a truly odd theropod and one of the few to exist in Antarctica.
8. Which of these was not a prosauropod?

Answer: Tazoudasaurus

One of the most primitive sauropods, this creature's fossils include the oldest sauropod skull found to date.
9. Which of these theropods was the longest?

Answer: Spinosaurus

While not as heavily built as T-Rex, Spinosaurus outstretched it at 17-18m in length, making this beast the largest carnivore on land that history has ever seen. However, studies on Spinosaurus teeth show that it lived life sort of like a crocodile, often eating fish and aquatic life, as opposed to the diet of other large dinosaurs.
10. Which of these dinosaurs was the fastest?

Answer: Ornithomimmus

Hitting possible speeds of 60km/h, this dinosaur was a true speed demon.
