Question 1 of 10
1. I am the most simple element. I usually have no neutrons, one proton, and a single electron. I am the most abundant element, and I am responsible for the good and the bad-I am the primary fuel source of the sun, but it was me that caused the Hindenburg zeppelin to burn so rapidly. What element am I? Hint

Question 2 of 10
2. I am one of the few elements found at room temperature in the liquid state. In the past I was known by alchemists as quicksilver. What element am I? Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. I am an element you see every day. Rocks containing me can be described as "ferrous". The Earth's core is made up of mostly me. What element am I? Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. I am an element first discovered by Marie & Pierre Curie. I am named after the type of heat transfer experimented with by Becquerel. This heat transfer can be dangerous. I also give off dangerous radon gas in the right conditions. What element am I? Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. I am often considered to be one of the roots of the fall of Rome. My chemical symbol is an abbreviation of the Latin word for me. I am excellent for blocking radiation, but I can poison you all the same. What element am I? Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Again, my chemical symbol comes from a Latin word. I am valued greatly--so greatly that my Latin root word also spawned the word "aura". So if you have good aura then you are said to have properties of me! What element am I? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. I am found in the gas state at room temperature. Some people think I am royal or kingly. Apparently. I am commonly found in Earth's atmosphere. What element am I? Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. I am a very common element. I am all around you. I cause rust to happen. What element am I? Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. I am a gray-white metal that is highly ductile (meaning can be easily molded into wires, pipes, and the like). I also have the highest melting point of any metal found on Earth! What element am I? Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. When I am mixed with chlorine, I am transformed into something you eat every day. I also burn with a yellow flame. What element am I? Hint

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. I am the most simple element. I usually have no neutrons, one proton, and a single electron. I am the most abundant element, and I am responsible for the good and the bad-I am the primary fuel source of the sun, but it was me that caused the Hindenburg zeppelin to burn so rapidly. What element am I?

Answer: Hydrogen

Hydrogen burns extremely quickly. It is lighter than air, which is why the Hindenburg was full of it when it caught fire.
2. I am one of the few elements found at room temperature in the liquid state. In the past I was known by alchemists as quicksilver. What element am I?

Answer: Mercury

Mercury was named after the Roman god Mercury. It also shares its name with the planet closest to the sun.
3. I am an element you see every day. Rocks containing me can be described as "ferrous". The Earth's core is made up of mostly me. What element am I?

Answer: Iron

Steel, which most buildings contain, has a lot of iron. It helps support the buildings structurally and is lighter and easier to mold than rock. The Latin word for iron is ferrum, which is why iron's chemical symbol is Fe and rocks containing iron are called ferrous.
4. I am an element first discovered by Marie & Pierre Curie. I am named after the type of heat transfer experimented with by Becquerel. This heat transfer can be dangerous. I also give off dangerous radon gas in the right conditions. What element am I?

Answer: Radium

Radium was one of the first discovered elements known to be radioactive. Henry Becquerel was an early pioneer in the study of radioactivity.
5. I am often considered to be one of the roots of the fall of Rome. My chemical symbol is an abbreviation of the Latin word for me. I am excellent for blocking radiation, but I can poison you all the same. What element am I?

Answer: Lead

Pb is lead's chemical symbol. Lead was used in pipes in Rome and the Latin word for lead is "plumbum", thus the English word plumbing. The lead in the pipes in Roman towns is thought to have been a major factor in a sharp population decline shortly before Rome fell.
6. Again, my chemical symbol comes from a Latin word. I am valued greatly--so greatly that my Latin root word also spawned the word "aura". So if you have good aura then you are said to have properties of me! What element am I?

Answer: Gold

The Latin word for gold is "aurum". This is why the chemical symbol for gold is Au.
7. I am found in the gas state at room temperature. Some people think I am royal or kingly. Apparently. I am commonly found in Earth's atmosphere. What element am I?

Answer: Argon

The most helpful information here was hinting towards the fact that argon is the only element of the four listed that is characterized as one of the Noble Gases. They are called Noble Gases because they don't tend to take part in chemical reactions (That is, they don't often interact with other elements).

This caused early mappers of the periodic table, such as Dmitri Mendeleev, to think of them as proud and noble.
8. I am a very common element. I am all around you. I cause rust to happen. What element am I?

Answer: Oxygen

Iron oxide is rusted iron. Although that is the type of rust we are normally used to, there are many other oxides (types of rust) that occur.
9. I am a gray-white metal that is highly ductile (meaning can be easily molded into wires, pipes, and the like). I also have the highest melting point of any metal found on Earth! What element am I?

Answer: Tungsten

Tungsten was originally referred to as Wolfram. This is why its current chemical symbol is still W.
10. When I am mixed with chlorine, I am transformed into something you eat every day. I also burn with a yellow flame. What element am I?

Answer: Sodium

Sodium and chlorine (sodium chloride) is everyday table salt. Sodium combines with many other elements to form compounds referred to as salts but which are actually inedible.
