Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which is the only non-Canadian CFL franchise to have won the Grey Cup?

Answer: Baltimore Stallions

Baltimore won in the 1995 season, before moving to Montreal for 1996 when the rest of the American franchises folded.
2. How long is a CFL field (including the end zones)?

Answer: 150 yards

A regulation CFL field has two 20-yard end zones, and a 110 yard filed-of-play field for a total of 150 yards.
3. In which year did the Grey Cup become apochraphally known as 'the great national drunk', when a Stampeder fan rode a horse into a downtown Toronto hotel during Grey Cup Week?

Answer: 1948

I believe 1948 saw the first Calgary team in the Grey Cup classic, and the Stampeder fans moved their Stampede to Toronto. Toronto was quite unprepared for the western-style celebrations.
4. Which CFL stadium had the smallest capacity in the year 2000?

Answer: McGill Stadium

The Alouettes moved out of the cavernous Olympic Stadium (seating of 60,000+) in 1997 to the 19,600+ cozy confines of McGill University. They currently are the hottest ticket in town and regularly play to sell-outs and are looking for larger confines. They won't go back to the Big Owe no matter what
5. How are regulation-time ties settled in the CFL?

Answer: Shootout - 4 series of downs each

In the year 2000, the CFL adopted the shootout format of settling ties, like some American Univeristy conferences. Each team scrimmages the ball up to four times from the opposition 35. They go until they score or turn the ball over. If after an even-number of attempts one team has a scoring advantage, they win. The 'loser' is awarded 1 point in the standings.
6. 1999 San Francisco 49er QB Jeff Garcia played his CFL career for which team?

Answer: Calgary

Jeff Garcia was an understudy to Doug Flutie in Calgary, and took the Stampeders to the Grey Cup in 1998 before jumping to the NFL.
7. The goal posts in the CFL are located where?

Answer: on the goal line

8. The last two NFL teams to play on Canadian Soil were which?

Answer: Buffalo and Miami

The game was on December 6, 2008, and played in Toronto.
9. Which team was the last to win a Grey Cup in front of home-town fans in the 20th century?

Answer: BC Lions

The BC Lions beat the Baltimore Stallions 26-23 in 1994, in front of 59,000 Vancouver fans.
10. In which month is the Grey Cup usually played?

Answer: November

A football game in Regina in February? You must be out of your mind! It would be no picnic in Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg either? Best to have it indoors in either Toronto or Vancouver.
