Answer: Stanley Mathews

Stanley Matthews won the title in 1956 while playing for Blackpool. The first world player of the year award went to Lothar Matthaus, who was playing for Inter Milan at the time.
2. When Republic of Ireland played Spain in the 2002 World Cup, Ian Harte missed a penalty. Who put the follow up wide?

Answer: Kevin Kilbane

Kilbane missed the follow up but Robbie Keane netted in the 90th minute to level the score at 1-1, only for Ireland to lose in the penalty shoot out.
3. Who was the first team to lose two consecutive FA Cup finals?

Answer: Old Etonians

All these teams reached the FA Cup final when it was played at the Kennington Oval, London, but Old Etonians lost two in a row in 1875 and 1876, both after replays. They won the cup in 1879 and 1992.
