1. Who was the founder of Shotokan karate?

Answer: Funakoshi Gichin

Funakoshi was an Okinawan school teacher who went to Japan to demonstrate karate to the Japanese. His pen name was Shoto.
2. What does WSKF stand for?

Answer: World Shotokan Karate Federation

The WSKF is an off-shoot of the original JKA, Japan Karate Association.

The only countries outside of Okinawa where Shorin-Ryu Butokukan karate and kobudo is practiced are the USA, Argentina, and South Africa.

Sensei Stan Schmidt was the first South African to introduce JKA karate to that country during the 1950s. He was also the first westerner to make it to the semi-finals of the All Japan Karate Tournament.

The word "bun" literally means to "separate" or "breakdown" and "kai" means "understand". Thus "bunkai" literally means to breakdown the kata and understand the moves.

Answer: Chojun Miyagi

Chojun Miyagi developed Goju-Ryu karate. Goju means "Hard-Soft".
