Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Law 1: The Field of Play. In 2003, how long was an international field?

Answer: 110-120m

"The field of play must be rectangular. The length of the touch line must be greater than the length of the goal line." --FIFA Laws of the Game Handbook 2001, pg. 6.
2. Law 2: The Ball. The circumference of the ball should not be greater than what?

Answer: 70 cm

"The ball should be of a circumference of no more than 70 cm, and no less than 68 cm." --FIFA Laws of the Game Handbook 2001, pg. 11.
3. Law 3: The Number of Players. Which is the maximum number of players a team can have on the field of play?

Answer: 11

If the referee discovers during the match, that a team has more than 11 players on the field at the same time, the game must be restarted!
4. Law 4: The Players' Equipment. Which of the following things should a player *not* wear during a game?

A stopwatch can be dangerous. It could seriously scar or scratch a player. Players should not wear jewellery or hair barrettes either, as they can also be dangerous.
5. Law 5: The Referee. Which of the following things does a referee NOT use?

Answer: megaphone

The pressure gauge is used to check the pressure of the ball before a game, but the referee doesn't use a megaphone. In international games, most referees rely completely on hand signals.
6. Law 6: The Assistant Referee. Which of the following things did an assistant referee (or linesman) not use in 2002?

Answer: walkie-talkie to communicate to the referee

Although it is officially the referee's duty to time the match and keep score, the assistant should also do these things, in case the referee makes a mistake.
7. Law 7: The Duration of the Match. How long should the halves of an international match be?

Answer: 45 minutes

The length of the match may be shortened at the discretion of the referee in special circumstances (e.g. heat, insufficient light). However, these changes must be discussed with the two teams prior to the match.
8. Law 8: The Start and Restart of Play. At a kick-off, how many times is the kicker allowed to kick the ball before it has touched another player?

Answer: Once

The kicker may not kick the ball more than once before it touches another player.
9. Law 9: The Ball in and out of Play. The ball is out of play as soon as it has crossed the touch line, even partially.

Answer: False

The ball is also out of play if the play has been stopped by the referee.
10. The Method of Scoring: Is a player allowed to score directly from a throw-in?

Answer: No

That would be pretty hard to do.
