Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the very first skill that a gymnast completes on the bar during the Level 6 routine?

Answer: kip

Level 6 is a compulsory level, and all gymnasts in Level 6 are required to do the same skills and the same routine. A kip is a very basic skill that is performed to mount the bar and begin a gymnast's routine.
2. What skill comes after the kip and cast on the low bar?

Answer: clear hip (free hip)

A clear hip and a free hip are the exact same skill. Some people prefer saying one or the other, depending on which one their coach said. A clear hip or free hip, is when a gymnast flips around the bar, and before making a complete circle, shoots up to a handstand.

A handstand is not required in Level 6, and not many women are able to accomplish this, they just shoot to a handstand horizontal to the bar.
3. What is the total number of kips in the routine?

Answer: 3

The first two kips occur on the low bar, and the last kip is on the high bar. Every gymnast in Level 6 has 3 kips in her routine because every Level 6 gymnast has the same routine.
4. What is the dismount called?

Answer: flyaway

A flyaway is a straight-bodied back flip.
5. What do most gymnasts put on their hands and wrists for the bar routine?

Answer: Grips

Grips are very helpful so that you don't get rips on your hands! So are wristbands.
6. There is a 'giant' only in the Level 6 bar routine.

Answer: False

Giants can be in the bar routine in Level 7 or a higher level. A giant is a straight bodied flip around the bar, ending in a short handstand on top of the bar.
7. If a gymnast doesn't salute at the end of her routine, does she get a deduction?

Answer: Yes

At the end of a routine, if a gymnast forgets to salute, her score is reduced.
8. What happens if a gymnast falls off the bars during her routine?

Answer: She gets back on the bars and finishes her routine

If a gymnast doesn't complete her routine, she won't get a very good score, and that will hurt her all-around score, which is the total score of all 4 events.
9. How often do routines and requirements change in all the levels of women's gymnastics?

Answer: every 4 years

Every 4 years, the routines and requirements of women's gymnastics change, and the skills get a little bit harder each time they change the routines.
10. Is there a deduction if the gymnast's arms are not straight on her kip?

Answer: Yes

There is a deduction on every skill if it's not perfect! A kip is the Level 6 gymnast's mount to get on to the bars. It is when a gymnast holds a pike position while moving forward, then while bringing her feet to the top of the bar, she pushes herself up until she is on the bar.
