John Boland of Ireland, later to become a British Member of Parliament, defeated Dionysios Kasdaglis of Greece to become the first Olympic tennis champion. The other three mentioned here are all early Wimbledon champions.

In the 1900 Paris Olympics, Charlotte Cooper, the Wimbledon champion of 1895, 1896 and 1898, beat Helene Prevost in the singles final to become the first woman in any sport to win an Olympic gold medal. She also won the mixed doubles title that year with Reginald Doherty.
