Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Name the woman who is having a birthday.

Answer: Miss Sophie

Miss Sophie is a wealthy old woman whose closest friends have all died. The only friend left is her trusty butler, James.
2. In what language is the opening monologue spoken?

Answer: German

Although the skit is playing in English by British actors, the beginning is said in German with subtitles. It is best known in Germany.
3. Every time James walks past the tiger mat, he trips over the head.

Answer: False

Even though James trips over the tiger head many times, there are a few times that he misses it. One of my favourite parts is when James hops over the tiger's head.
4. How old is Miss Sophie?

Answer: 90

It is Miss Sophie's 90th birthday party. She still holds a party every year even though she has no guests. So she gets James to act out the part of the guests.
5. Who is NOT a guest at Miss Sophie's party?

Answer: Mr. Pompidor

The fourth guest was Mr. Pomeroy, not Pompidor. Mr. Pomeroy is the third person Miss Sophie "talks" to. My favourite person is Admiral Von Schnieder who clicks his heals before drinking. Hilarious.
6. What drink did Miss Sophie want with the fish?

Answer: White wine

She had white wine with the fish, sherry with the soup, champagne with the chicken and port with the fruit.
7. James drinks the water from the flower vase.

Answer: True

James who, at the this point had quite a bit to drink, picked up the vase instead of the alcohol, threw out the flowers and drank the water. When it tasted bad, he blamed it on the cat.
8. What is the missing word? "Same _____ as last year?"

Answer: Procedure

James: "Same procedure is last year?"
Miss Sophie: "Same procedure as every year James."
James always asks this, just to be sure.
9. Who did Miss Sophie say was her dearest friend?

Answer: Mr. Winterbottom

It is mentioned in the opening monologue and several times during the skit, that Mr. Winterbottom has a special place in Miss Sophie's heart.
10. James escorts Miss Sophie up the stairs at the end of the skit.

Answer: True

At the very end, it is insinuated that James is to spend the night with Miss Sophie. He says he'll try and escorts her up the stairs.
