Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Story about an aspiring actor played by Aaron Rothermund

Answer: "Friendly Fires" (2017)

"Friendly Fires" was a Canadian production about David, an actor (played by Aaron Rothermund). In only six episodes, it told about the various auditions David went for, the rejections he got, and his plans to change his life, for instance by going back to college.
Don't confuse this mini-series with the Hong Kong production "Friendly Fire" starring Michael Tse as barrister, later main prosecutor.
2. Game show in which celebrities had to guess if the contestants told the truth

Answer: "Pants on Fire" (2019)

Emma Willis presented this extravagant game show. Three couples of contestants (comedians Donna Preston and Verona Rose; YouTubers Zac Alsop and Jamie Rawsthorne; and Bobby Mair with his wife Harriet Kemsley) had to devise improbable stunts and tell a story about it , while a jury of guest celebrities had to assess if the contestants were telling the truth.

The show ran for 9 episodes. One of the achievements that a couple bragged about was crossing the Mediterranean from Europe to Africa on a pedalo (water cycle).
3. Drama about the personal and professional life of firefighters in a major American city

Answer: "Chicago Fire" (2012)

"Chicago Fire" starred Eamonn Walker, Jesse Spencer and Taylor Kinney as the commanding officers of a group of Firefighters in Chicago. Walker played the overall chief Wallace Boden. Spencer played Lieutenant Casey Matthews, a character who was promoted to Captain in the sixth season. Matthews was the day-to-day leader of the group. Third in command and especially in charge of the rescue squad was Lieutenant Kelly Severide (role by Taylor Kinney). These three acted in all episodes from the first eight seasons.
The main actress on the show was Monica Raymund as Gabriela Dawson, who used to be the paramedic in chief on the ambulance crew but also succeeded in the exams for firefighter.
The storyline included various fictive incidents at which a firefighter team, rescue team and/or ambulance personnel had to intervene.
4. Hong Kong martial arts series

Answer: "Grace Under Fire" (2011)

The correct answer is the Hong Kong series "Grace Under Fire" (2011), a completely different production from the American sitcom "Grace Under Fire" (1993-1998). That's why I have added the broadcast year in the answer. The original title for the Hong Kong series would translate literally into English as "Female Fist", but that title would not fit in this particular quiz.
In the Hong Kong series "Grace Under Fire", the protagonist was Mok Kwai-Lan (role by Liu Xuan), a simple waitress who trained in martial arts with the famous Wong Fei-Hung (played by David Chiang).
5. Historic drama about war between the Ottoman and Mameluke sultanates

Answer: "Kingdoms of Fire" (2019)

"Kingdoms of Fire" was a co-production between Egypt, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates. The story was set at the start of the XVIth Century, during the reign of sultan Selim I as head of the Ottoman Empire. Selim's opponent was Tuman bey, born as a slave but having reached the highest office in the Egyptian Mameluke sultanate.
As the series was broadcast from an Egyptian point of view, there was some controversy: the Turkish authorities accused the producers of having negated the real historical facts.
6. Drama about Korean female pottery master

Answer: "Goddess of Fire" (2013)

"Goddess of Fire" was a dramatized version of the real life of Baek Pa Sun, the first woman to make pottery and fine china in Korea at the end of the XVIth Century. The series renamed her Jung Yi and focused on the early stages of her craftsmanship. When her reputation got international, the Japanese Emperor invaded Korea and had Jung Yi abducted to create Japanese porcelain.
7. Animated series with a truck as main character

Answer: "Finley the Fire Engine" (2007)

The main character in "Finley the Fire Engine" was a red fire truck, which had to watch over the safety in Friendlyville. But Finley behaved mostly as a young boy in primary school. For instance when he needed to practice for an upcoming examination, he preferred to go out and play with his friends.

The show ran for 78 episodes and was a collaboration of American, Canadian, British and Irish animators.
8. Reality show about creating a knife or sword

Answer: "Forged in Fire" (2015)

"Forged in Fire" was a competition between blacksmiths to show their skill in weapon manufacture. Contestants had to recreate various weapons such as a gladiator's sword, a German halberd or a Scottish claymore, and they had limited time to do so. The judges commented on the craft itself, not on personal background stories as in many other reality shows.

The first season was limited to eight episodes, whereas later seasons had more episodes.
9. Documentary series about American mass shootings

Answer: "Active Shooter: America Under Fire" (2017)

"Active Shooter: America Under Fire" told the story of some famous shooting incidents, such as the Columbine High School Massacre, based upon reports by surviving victims, by family members of the deceased, and by members of the emergency services who responded to the incident.
It ran for only eight episodes, although there are alas so many incidents which could be the subject of a documentary.
10. Detective series starring James Earl Jones as private investigator

Answer: "Gabriel's Fire" (1990)

"Gabriel's Fire" starred James Earl Jones as an ex-police officer, convicted for having killed one of his colleagues. Although his sentence was life imprisonment, his lawyer got him out and hired him as a private investigator.
The series ran for 22 episodes on the ABC channel. James Earl Jones won an Emmy for his role.
