Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This series include various guest stars solving the mystery with the gang, some fictional and some real. Which series is it?

Answer: The New Scooby-Doo Movies

"The New Scooby-Doo Movies" featured 24 episodes each with different guest stars. The series began in September 1972 and lasted two seasons. It ended October 1973. One very notable thing about this particular series is that nine of the episodes have licensing problems with Warner Brothers and the guest stars. Charles Addams (The Addams Family), Phyllis Diller, Sandy Duncan, Sonny and Cher, Davy Jones, Jerry Reed, Archie Comics (Josie and the Pussycats), Sidney Sheldon (Jeannie) and Tim Conway have all refused to give Warner Brothers the rights to release these episodes digitally or on home media, meaning these are the only nine episodes that Warner Brothers does not have the rights to release.
2. This series featured all the gang as young children. The tone of the series was a lot goofier, and the gang's personalities (particularly Fred and Daphne's) were drastically different. Which series is it?

Answer: A Pup Named Scooby-Doo

"A Pup Named Scooby-Doo" was released in 1988 and lasted three seasons before it ended in 1991. The tone of the series was changed to target younger children during the "baby-fication years" of Hanna-Barbera, a period where H-B cartoons turned classic show characters into younger versions of themselves (i.e.

The Flintstone Kids and Yo Yogi!). Fred and Daphne's personalities were drastically changed in this series, with Daphne becoming more stuck-up and obsessed with fashion, and Fred turning into a dumber character, who believed in anything anyone said, including crazy magazines such as "The National Exaggerator." Fred also blamed the neighborhood bully, Red Herring, for the crime, even though he was not the culprit. Fred did this in every episode except for one, when ironically, Red Herring was the culprit.
3. This is the very first "Scooby-Doo" series that began in 1969. What series is this?

Answer: Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?

"Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" was the series that started it all in 1969. However, most people don't know that the series was originally going to be called "Mysteries Five," Geoff, Kelly, Linda, Mike, W.W. and "Too Much," their dog. The idea was later scrapped by CBS, due to the tone of the show being declared "too dark" by network executive Fred Silverman.
4. This series was the first to feature Scooby's nephew as a main character. Fred, Daphne and Velma were given less screen time, and Shaggy, Scooby, and his nephew were the prominent focus of the show. What show is this?

Answer: The Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo Show

In 1979, due to threat by ABC of cancellation of the Scooby-Doo show, Hanna-Barbera decided to add a new character to the show to spice things up. The character was Scooby's nephew, Scrappy-Doo, who came in a box on a train to visit his uncle Scooby. Scrappy began solving mysteries with the gang, and proved to be quite the opposite of his frightened uncle, in fact, he did not fear monsters at all and often wanted to fight them.

The fan reaction to Scrappy was very mixed, with some people loving the addition of a fresh new character while others saying that he ruined the show. Scrappy would stay on the show until 1988, when his character was removed from the series.
5. This show modernized the classic series, going back to the basic formula with a new 21st century update. Some guest stars would be featured in the show, but the general focus went back to the gang as teenagers. Which series is this?

Answer: What's New, Scooby-Doo?

"What's New" went back to the basic formula of the show, adding technology and updated animation into the show. The show featured various pop culture guests, such as J.C. Chasez, Simple Plan and Mike Piazza. Old favorite characters, such as the Hex Girls, were also brought back into the series as guests.

In addition, a chase song was included in every episode of the 42-episode show, which lasted from 2002 to 2006.
6. This series featured drastic new designs of the gang. The humor was more of a focus in this series, but the formula of the original show was used. Each episode also included a chase song. Which show is it?

Answer: Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!

"Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!" is a more comedic, redesigned version of "Scooby-Doo" which began in October 2015. After the gang finishes up their senior year, they decided to drive in the Mystery Machine during their final summer before college, where they run into many monsters.

The characters' personalities were also somewhat redesigned, particularly Daphne's and Fred's. Fred is less dimwitted then in the previous incarnations, while Daphne is portrayed as more quirky and lively. The animation has also been compared to that of "Family Guy."
7. This was the first series not to feature Fred, Velma or Daphne, instead featuring Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy running into real monsters.

Answer: The Richie Rich/Scooby-Doo Show

Paired alongside the "Richie Rich" show, this series aired in 1980 as a hour-long cartoon block. The tone of the show was changed again, this time to include real monsters rather than culprits in masks. The format was also switched from 22-minute episodes into 7-minute shorts. To fit the odd episode length into the schedule, the network aired three shorts at once, calling them one "episode." Fred, Velma and Daphne were also removed from the series.

The series lasted 2 seasons, from 1980-1981.
8. This series brought Daphne back into the show. In addition, the monsters were now culprits in masks again instead of real supernatural creatures. The length was also changed from 7 to 11 minute shorts. What series is this?

Answer: The New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo Show

"The New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo Show," which premiered in 1983, brought fans back to the original format of culprits in masks, which had not been used for 3 years. Daphne, Shaggy, Scooby and Scrappy were included in the series, but Fred and Velma were still left out of the series for another year.
9. This show featured Scooby and several other Hanna-Barbera characters in a "Battle of the Network Stars" type format with various sports events that each character would compete in. The three teams were the Scooby Doobies, the Yogi Yahooeys, and the Really Rottens. What series is this?

Answer: Scooby's All Star Laff-A-Lympics

Originally titled simply "Laff-A-Lympics," the show's name was later changed for syndication. Each week, cartoon fans would get to see the Scooby Doobies, the Yogi Yahooeys, and the Really Rottens compete in a variety of sports events each week. Often, the Scoobies and the Yogis would have to deal with the Really Rottens, who would constantly cheat and sabotage the other teams.
10. This three season show had the gang solving mysteries in a similar format to the original series, the only difference being Velma's voice actor. Which series is it?

Answer: The Scooby-Doo Show

This 40-episode long 1976-1978 series was extremely similar to "Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?" and lasted three seasons. The format of season 1 was nearly exactly the same, but season 2's tone was made much darker, and season 3 retitled under the "Scooby's All Stars" block. In addition, the show aired at the same time as "Scooby's All Star Laff-A-Lympics."
11. This was the final show to feature Scooby, Shaggy, and Scrappy solving mysteries alone without Daphne. Which show is it?

Answer: The Scooby-Doo/Scrappy-Doo/Puppy Hour

This show aired for one season in 1982, and featured three 7-minute shorts each week to make up a 21-minute episode. The first two shorts featured Shaggy, Scrappy and Scooby solving mysteries involving real monsters, while the third short introduced Scrappy's uncle Yabba-Doo along with Deputy Dusty, a Southern lawman who chased criminals.

The third short did not ever feature Shaggy or Scooby. This show was also paired up with "The Puppy's New Adventures" to make an hour-long cartoon block.
12. This show featured Vincent Price, Daphne, Shaggy, Scooby, Scrappy, and newbie Flim Flam catching the most terrifying ghosts upon the face of the earth, and putting them back in "the chest of demons." Which show is it?

Answer: The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo

Vincent Price, who voiced new character Vincent Van Ghoul, lent his talents to this 1985 series. The series featured thirteen episodes, however, all thirteen ghosts in the demon chest were never captured, leaving the show on a cliffhanger. Fred and Velma did not appear at all in this series.
13. This series featured the return of Fred and Velma, but only as guest stars. Which series is it?

Answer: The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries

"The New Scooby-Doo Mysteries" featured no changes from the previous show "The New Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo Show" other than Fred and Velma occasionally appearing in the two part episodes as guest stars. The series lasted 13 episodes and one season.
14. This series had the gang living in Crystal Cove and trying to figure out who the mysterious "Mr. E" was. What show is it?

Answer: Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated

This show was one of the first to feature a dark tone, in addition to an overarching storyline, with season 1 focusing on the mysterious Mr. E and season 2 focusing on the planispheric disk. Relationship subplots were also added to the series. Fred and Daphne dated throughout the series along with Shaggy and Velma, who dated for the majority of season 1. This series ran from 2010-2013.
15. This series featured Shaggy and Scooby trying to find Shaggy's uncle Albert. Along the way, they try to dodge the nefarious Dr. Phibes and his agents. What show is it?

Answer: Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get A Clue!

"Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get A Clue" is the most controversial series, because basically everything was changed about the show, including voice actors, animation, and even the mystery solving. Instead of solving mysteries, Shaggy and Scooby went undercover and tried to stop Dr. Phibes and reclaim Shaggy's uncle.

The show was also geared more towards younger kids, and more slapstick humor was used. The show ran from 2006-2008 with a total of 26 episodes.
