Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Prom Queen", Rachel sings Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" with which person?

Answer: Jesse St. James

Appearing on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6", this song reached number twenty-nine on the Billboard Hot 100 beating out the remaining songs in "Glee's" second season in terms of chart positions. Originally, this song was performed by UK artist Adele on her second CD, "21".

The song went multi-platinum in the U.S. showing on four Billboard charts and reaching the top of both the Hot 100 and the U.S. Pop Songs charts. In this episode, Rachel begins singing this song in the school auditorium but she's interrupted mid-verse by none other than Jesse St. James, the boy who betrayed her before Regionals the previous year to benefit Vocal Adrenaline, his home team.

The two of them duet and he invites her to prom.
2. During the "Prom Queen" episode, Artie sings "Isn't She Lovely" to Brittany. Where are they during the song?

Answer: In class

Artie sings this song to Brittany in order to convince her to go to prom with him, but after the events in the previous episode, "Rumours", the two of them are facing some harder times. She acknowledges the effort he makes in coming into her home-ec class to sing the song, but she doesn't guarantee that they'll be going together. "Isn't She Lovely" was originally by Stevie Wonder and it never actually charted in the U.S.

It was originally released in 1976 and was written about his daughter. The "Glee" version appeared on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6" and reached number sixty-five on the Hot 100.
3. In "Prom Queen", some of the guys in New Directions sing what song by Rebecca Black during prom?

Answer: Friday

Unsurprisingly, this notorious song makes an appearance in this episode, mere months after its viral release on Youtube. The original song by Rebecca Black was infamous for its poor vocals and it reached number fifty-eight on the Hot 100 in 2011; the "Glee" version topped it by reaching number thirty-four on the same chart.

It did not appear on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6". Puck, Sam, and Artie are the ones to perform this song at prom to kick off the ceremonies. Unsurprisingly, the song goes over well with all those in attendance.

They're later followed by Blaine, Tina, and Brittany singing The Black Kids' "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You" and Rachel singing solo for Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts".
4. In the closing number of "Prom Queen", who duets with Mercedes?

Answer: Santana

The final number for "Prom Queen" is ABBA's "Dancing Queen" which is sung by Mercedes and Santana to celebrate Kurt's being crowned Prom Queen. Because Dave Karofsky, the Prom King, refuses to dance with him, Blaine steps in and joins in on the first dance.
The "Glee" version of "Dancing Queen" reached number seventy-four on the Billboard Hot 100 while the original song, appearing in 1976, topped the same chart in its year of release. It is one of ABBA's most well-known singles. It did not appear on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6".
5. The first person to perform their Nationals audition in "Funeral" is Santana who sings "You Know I'm No Good".

Answer: False

Santana actually sings Amy Winehouse's "Back to Black" from the album of the same name. The original rendition of the song reached number eight on the UK singles chart but did not chart at all in the U.S. The album of the same name fared much better going multi-platinum around the world, receiving rave critical reviews, and topping the UK Albums Chart.

It peaked at number two in the U.S. The "Glee" version didn't appear on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6" but it still charted at number eighty-two on the Hot 100. In order to build themselves up for Nationals, Jesse suggests structuring the entire setlist around one major star to beat the other show choirs.

As a result, Santana, Kurt, Mercedes, and Rachel all try out in auditions for this role.
6. Which of these songs was not performed during an audition in "Funeral"?

Answer: Mr. Cellophane

"Mr. Cellophane" was performed by Kurt during his first audition for Glee Club back in season 1. For this particular audition he sang "Some People" from "Gypsy's" first act. Mercedes sings Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness" and Rachel sings "My Man" from "Funny Girl" (by Barbra Streisand). The only one of these songs to originally chart was Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness".

It went to number twenty-two on the U.S. Pop Chart in 1967 though the original version of the song was from the 1930s.

The "Glee" version did not chart (like "Some People") though it appeared on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6" along with "My Man". "My Man" hit number ninety-four on the Billboard Hot 100.
7. During the funeral in the episode entitled "Funeral", New Directions sings "Pure Imagination", a song from which movie?

Answer: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory

One of the most famous songs from the 1971 film "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory", "Pure Imagination" is sung by Gene Wilder who plays the title role. In the movie, the song appears as the kids enter Wonka's factory for the first time and are treated to an indoor meadow filled with candy and a chocolate river.

The "Glee" rendition of the song showed up at number fifty-nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and made an appearance on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6". It was the highest-charting song from the episode. The kids in New Directions performed this song during the funeral for Sue's sister, Jean, after Finn and Kurt discovered that it was from her favourite movie.

The song brought Sue to tears and she later changed her mind about hindering the Glee Club's trip to Nationals.
8. During the rendition of "Bella Notte" in the 'New York" episode, what instrument does Puck play?

Answer: Accordion

Surprisingly, aside from guitar he also has the accordion in his arsenal. As Finn and Rachel prepare for a night on the town in New York City before the Show Choir Nationals, they walk past Puck, Mike, Artie, and Sam who begin to sing "Bella Notte", a song made famous by the movie "Lady and the Tramp".
"Bella Notte" was the opening song for this particular Disney movie and though it never appeared on any music charts it has been considered a memorable soundtrack entry by the AFI. The "Glee" version failed to chart but it did appear on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6".
9. What do Rachel and Finn do after singing "Pretending" during the "New York" episode?

Answer: Kiss

Rachel and Finn are the only ones to sing "Pretending", a duet they both wrote to commence their setlist for Nationals in New York. At the end of the number, to the surprise of the audience, they kiss in front of the entire crowd before starting their second number. Jesse St. James claims that the kiss was unprofessional and would probably cost them the competition. "Pretending" fared well on the charts.

As an original song, it peaked at number forty on the Billboard Hot 100 and showed up on "Glee: The Music, Volume 6". Neither of the New Directions original songs from this episode bested their setlist from Regionals on the charts.
10. What is the name of the group number featured during Nationals in the "New York" episode?

Answer: Light Up the World

"Light Up the World" was an original song, the final number of "Glee's" second season, and the closing group number for New Directions' Nationals setlist. The song, at number thirty-three on the Billboard Hot 100, was the highest-charting song of the episode.
In the end of this season, New Directions finishes up their Nationals setlist and fails to place in the top ten teams moving on to the final stages of the competition. When they return to Ohio, they quickly get over their stumble during their trip and celebrate a twelfth-place victory overall. And hey-- there's always next year!
