Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. David Starsky

Answer: Ford Gran Torino

In season one of "Starsky & Hutch", they used (2) 1975 versions and in season two they replaced these with (2) 1976 versions. They kept these last two cars for the duration of the program. The red paint was a factory Ford colour. Due to the popularity of the show, Ford produced 1,000 "limited edition" replicas of the Starsky and Hutch Torino (Zebra 3) from March to May 1976 at the Chicago assembly plant.
2. Jim Rockford

Answer: Pontiac Firebird

"The Rockford Files" was on the air from 1974-1980. During this time, Jim started with a 1974 Firebird Espirit, updating every year into the current model. The last two seasons James Garner did not like the styling of the 1979 model, so he used the 1978 model for the last two seasons.
3. Bo & Luke Duke

Answer: Dodge Charger

The General Lee was a 1969 Dodge Charger on the "Dukes of Hazzard". During the filming of the series it is estimated that they used between 255 - 325 of these cars. Most were damaged beyond repair during jumps and the rigorous stunts that they were put through.
4. Michael Knight

Answer: Pontiac Trans Am

On the show "Knight Rider", KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) was played by a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am. Oh yeah, David Hasslehoff also starred on the show...but the car was the bigger star.
5. Batman

Answer: Batmobile

Okay, this one was a gift. Adam West played "Batman" on the campy TV series of the same name. The Batmobile was originaly a 1955 concept car called the Futura, that was built by Ford, but never made it into production. In the mid sixties, George Barris purchased the car for $1 directly from Ford, and the transformation took place.
6. Britt Reid

Answer: Chrysler Imperial Crown

On "The Green Hornet", Britt Reid was the green hornet. His car, Black Beauty, was a 1966 Chrysler Imperial that was customized at a cost of $13,000.00 US in 1966. The show only lasted one season, and introduced us to Bruce Lee who starred as sidekick, Kato.
7. The Monkees

Answer: Pontiac GTO

When "The Monkees" drove down the street, you definitely noticed them thanks to a fully customized 1966 Pontiac GTO convertible. General Motors donated (2) base 389 GTO convertibles to be customized. Both cars were built in a span of 4 weeks, the first with a functional 6-71 blower that proved to be too difficult to handle.

It was replaced with a dummy blower. The second car can be seen as Tony Nelson's car on "I Dream of Jeannie" before the transformation. The first car was used in season 1, but both cars featured in season 2.
8. The Clampetts

Answer: Oldsmobile Model 37

On the show "The Beverly Hillbillies", the kin drove around in a 1921 Oldsmobile Model 37 truck. The original truck is in the possession of the College of the Ozarks, located near Branson, Missouri.
9. Nash Bridges

Answer: Plymouth 'Cuda

On "Nash Bridges", Don Johnson drove the 1971 'Cuda painted in High Impact Yellow Twist. While the car was supposed to be "Hemi Cuda", it in reality was actually (4) cars, (2) 1970 'Cudas...made to look like '71s...and (2) 1971 'Cudas. None of these cars had the "Hemi", as they are far too valuable to use for stunt work.
10. Thomas Magnum

Answer: Ferrari 308 GTS

On "Magnum PI" Tom Selleck got to cruise around Hawaii in a bright red Ferrari... a Ferrari in Hawaii...good deal! Anyways, they used (3) different cars over the shows eight seasons. In season one (1979 Ferrari 308GTS),seasons 2-6 (1981 Ferrari 308GTSi) and seasons 7-8 (1984 Ferrari 308GTSi quattrovalvole).
