1. The motorcycle gang known as "Hells Angels" began in California. In what year were they first established?

Answer: 1948

Is is written that "Hells Angels" do NOT refer to each other by last names, meaning they are on a strict first name basis and in most cases they know each other by nicknames. Arizona, Nevada and Oregon are all connected to California. The state of California is subject to droughts, floods, landslides, tsunamis, wildfires and most notably earthquakes.
2. On April 18, 1906, what city was hit by an earthquake that was an 8.25 on the Richter scale?

Answer: San Francisco

This particular earthquake also resulted in ruptured water mains, extreme fires and an estimated 80 percent of the city being destroyed. The death toll of this San Francisco earthquake in 1906 was 478, but in 2005 was revised at over 3,000 casualties. Native Americans were inhabiting California prior to people settling there.

More than 70 different groups of Native Americans were represented. In 1542, Joao Rodrigues Cabrilho became the first European explorer to explore the northern coast.

Arthur Heineman was responsible for the construction in building the first motel in 1925. The name "Motel" came from Heineman himself when he cleverly combined the word "motor" (as in car motor) with the already established "hotel", making the result be "mo-tel". About 25 percent of the total surface area in California is made up of deserts. Arrivals to California increased during early 20th century, because of the new transcontinental highways reaching completion.

In southern California, during the late 1930's, people with a "need for speed" began to work on and modify the "hot rod" by putting more power charged motors in their otherwise ordinary cars. The largest United States university system has been revealed to be California State University, which is estimated to have 400,000 students in 2008.

The Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta is responsible for providing water for 23 million people.
5. Named for the year it occurred, what were the tourists that were mining for Gold in "The California Gold Rush" called?

Answer: 49ers

Starting at Sutter's Mill on January 24, 1848, the legendary "California Gold Rush" would go on for the next seven years, until it ended in 1955. In 1848, There were no more than 15,000 non-native California residents. After the great "California Gold Rush" in 1849, the population exploded.

Answer: Death Valley

Death Valley, at 282 feet below sea level, has been reported to be the lowest point in North America. At 14,505 ft above sea level, Mount Whitney is the state's highest point. More than one-tenth of total U.S. production in crude oil has been produced from California.

With 899,000 acres in 2008, the California Redwood has been called "the most valuable timber species" in the state. The state reptile became the Desert Tortoise and West Coast Swing was established as the state dance. California was ranked third in total area in the US, after Alaska and Texas.
8. Levi Strauss was mentioned for creating something in 1873. What did he create?

Answer: blue jeans

Born February 26, 1829 in Bavaria, Germany, Levi Strauss arrived in America at the age of 18. After becoming an American citizen in 1853, Strauss moved from New York City (where he had started his own business) to San Francisco. At the time he arrived in San Francisco, the "California Gold Rush" was still taking place. On May 20, 1873, Strauss created something that changed the world of fashion forever and he called it "blue jeans". On September 26, 1902, Strauss passed away at 73 years of age. In his memory, a "Levi Strauss Museum" was opened in Germany (the place where he was born) and in San Francisco (the place where he invented blue jeans).

It has been discovered that if California was its own country, it would be the 35th most populated country in the world. 58 counties helped divide up California.
9. In 1967, what memorable event took place in California?

Answer: Summer of Love

100,000 young people took part in this hippie-like celebration. In Golden Gate Park, during the "Summer of Love", you could eat free food, get high on drugs and have sex all in the same afternoon. The US Census Bureau estimated the population of California at 36,553,215 in 2007. Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger was elected the state governor of California and assumed office on November 17, 2003. Arnold won the election by roughly 1.3 million votes.
10. When was the first movie studio established in Hollywood?

Answer: 1911

Nestor Studios was the very first movie studio opened in Hollywood. Fifteen other independent film studios opened in Hollywood during the same year. There were five Major League Baseball Teams in 2008 that represented California, more than any other state.

The teams were Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, San Diego Padres and San Francisco Giants. In addition, there were also three NFL teams, four NBA teams three NHL teams and two WNBA teams.
