Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. (1994) Super Nintendo. In the game "Stunt Race FX" Mario and some other famous Nintendo characters make some cameo appearances. What form of a cameo do Mario and the other Nintendo characters have?

Answer: Their faces appear on billboards

As you drive along in the game, you will notice that the billboards are faces of some of Nintendo's most prominent characters of the time. Among the group are Kirby, Star Fox, and Mario. Small cameos like these often compel curious gamers to buy the game and see it for themselves.
2. (1995) Super Nintendo. After completing the game "Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest" you are treated to a scene showing Cranky's Hall of Videogame Heroes. Mario obviously appears on Cranky's list but, what rank does he have, according to Cranky's Hall?

Answer: One

Indeed, Mario was number one in Cranky's Hall of Videogame Heroes. Yoshi was strong at number two, and Link from "The Legend of Zelda" series came up as number three. Something to look for next time you look at your old copy of this game.
3. (1996) Super Nintendo. Mario makes many cameo appearances in the game "Kirby Super Star". He, as well as Luigi, Toad, and Peach, appear as crowd members in one of the minigames, as well as a boss battle. Which of the following choices is another cameo type made by Mario in the game?

Answer: There's a golden Mario statue

Mario and the rest of the Nintendo gang are seen in the crowd, and a golden Mario statue also makes an appearance. To find this is rather difficult as you will have to use one of Stone Kirby's powers to turn into the golden Mario statue. The problem is that it very rarely happens and most casual gamers will never have an opportunity to see it.

Another cameo made by Mario is in the end credits, where all he does is appear next to a Nintendo logo at the end.
4. (1996) Nintendo 64. In the game "Pilotwings 64" a cleverly added cameo of Mario is introduced into a level called 'On the Little States'. The head of George Washington on Mount Rushmore has been replaced by Mario. What happens if you attack the head of Mario with either the Gyrocopter's missiles, or with a human cannonball?

Answer: The face turns into Wario

"Pilotwings" was one of the first flying games on the Nintendo 64, and also one of the first to have a cameo of Mario. It was considered average at the time and the game hasn't aged very well. Regardless, if you have a Nintendo 64 and a copy of this game and you haven't noticed the Mario head, you should look it up.
5. (1998) Nintendo 64. In the game "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" a few appearances are made by Mario and the rest of the Nintendo crew once again. The most apparent is in a certain location, you can see framed pictures of Mario, Yoshi, Bowser, and Peach. What is the name of the location where you can see these interesting images?

Answer: Hyrule Castle

Next time you play this unforgettable classic, go to Hyrule Castle and make it to the area where you must talk to Princess Zelda. Do not talk to her immediately, instead look through the window beside her and look to both the left and right hand sides of the room on the other side. Voilą! You have found the pictures of Mario and company. Also, you could shoot the pictures to receive some rupees.
6. (2000) Nintendo 64. In the game "Sim City 64" you can unlock a Mario statue to decorate your town with.

Answer: True

The effects are the same as on the Super Nintendo version, you hear a few notes from the Mario theme and people cheer. More or less, this was the same game as on the Super Nintendo, but it featured a lot more playability and some improved graphics. Mario's cameos in the game has been limited to only a statue though.
7. (2000) Nintendo 64. In the game "The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask", a mask bearing Mario's likeness appears somewhere in the game. Where is it?

Answer: On the back of the mask salesman early in the game

It is really easy to find the mask. All you have to do is after you meet the mask salesman, just run over to his back and go into first person mode. There, pretty much right on the center of his mask bag, you can see a Mario mask. You can never obtain it, in the game, but it is a nice bit of eye-candy.
8. (2001) Nintendo Gamecube. In the game "Animal Crossing" Mario and other Mario related items make a lot of appearances. Which of the following is not an actual cameo of Mario or his many commonly used items?

Answer: A bottle of water in the shape of Mario's hat

The game has lots of cameos by Mario and the gang. Some others include items like the green koopa shells, the question mark bricks, koopa cannons, coins, and pipes. There is also the Autumn Medal which features a picture of Mario's head on the medal. There is also a shirt that looks like Toad's hat.
9. (2003) Nintendo Gamecube. In the game "1080 Avalanche" you can see an inanimate cameo of Mario as what?

Answer: An ice sculpture

At the end of the Angel Night: Midnight City course is an ice sculpture of Mario. You can see it best during the introductory video of the stage. You can also unlock a bonus board that looks like a NES controller. The board makes a classical Mario jump noise when you jump, and a Bullet Bill Cannon noise when you have a heavy landing.
10. (2005) Nintendo DS. In the DS game "Nintendogs" you can apply a Mario and a Luigi hat to your dogs.

Answer: True

The hats are simply called the red and green hats, but after you apply them to your dogs, you will notice that the hats are those of Mario and Luigi. Another cameo that appears in some form or another is a remote control of "Mario Kart". For the Dachshund version, the cart is of Mario, the Chihuahua version features a cart of Bowser, and the Shiba/Lab version has one of Peach.
