Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character is unlockable only through "Ring Shot" mode?

Answer: Donkey Kong

In order to unlock Donkey Kong, a player must collect thirty stars in "Ring Shot" mode. There are thirty-six total stars, each earned by going through all of the rings in a selected course and still scoring on or under par.
2. Which of these is not the name of a real course?

Answer: Waluigi's Island

Waluigi's Island is a board in "Mario Party 3" for the Nintendo 64. However, Yoshi's Island is the real name of a course. There is a total of six 18-hole courses in "Mario Golf 64".
3. If a player makes a putt using the "long" putting range that goes up to 200 feet, what creature will appear out of the hole?

Answer: Goomba

A monty mole comes out of the hole if a player does the same thing only in the "middle" putting range that goes up to 100 feet. A ukiki appears if a player hits a pin shot.
4. Which of these is not a real name of one of the possible computer participants in "Tournament" mode?

Answer: Red Octorok

In "Tournament" mode, a player competes against 29 other computer players, each with a different name ranging from the "Star Fox" series to the "Zelda" series (as well as others). Among the over 100 different name options are also Ken and Kobe, which are derived from MLB player Ken Griffey Jr. and NBA player Kobe Bryant.
5. If a players wants their character to taunt their opponent, what button(s) must be pushed?

Answer: any button on the C-pad

In addition to this, any button on the D-pad can be pushed in order for a player's character to compliment their opponent. This trick can only be used during an opponent's turn, not one's own.
6. Of the four starting characters, which of them has the second-strongest drive?

Answer: Peach

Peach's regular drive is 212 yards, and her power drive is 233 yards. Although her drive is three yards shorter than Baby Mario's, that doesn't mean he's the better choice. Peach's shot is completely straight, which means that she's generally easier for newcomers to play with than Baby Mario.
7. If one connects their Game Boy Color version of "Mario Golf" using a "Transfer Pak", up to four new characters and two new courses can become usable in the Nintendo 64 version.

Answer: False

It is possible for one to transfer four characters from the Game Boy Color version, but no new courses become usable in the process. However, the characters aren't saved into the system, so once the Nintendo 64 is shut off, the newly acquired characters vanish. "Mario Golf 64" was the first Nintendo 64 game to be released that was compatible with the "Transfer Pak" hardware.
8. Which of these game modes does not award course points?

Answer: Ring Shot

"Stroke" mode does not award many course points, but it does award them nonetheless. "Get Character" mode can award a decent amount of course points per outing. If one can do exceptionally well in "Tournament" mode, a very nice amount of course points will be awarded as well as a trophy. Course points are used to unlock new courses. Thousands of course points are required to unlock them all.
9. What Mario character indicates wind speed and direction?

Answer: Boo

In the upper right-hand corner during play, Boo can be found floating with its head facing in the direction of the wind. Next to Boo is the wind speed, which can go as fast as 21 miles per hour. Wind is also sometimes nonexistent. Understanding the wind meter is an important key for players to make that first step from beginner to intermediate.
10. There is a cheat code entry screen in "Mario Golf 64".

Answer: True

If one holds the Z and R (or L and R) buttons and selects the "Clubhouse" option from the main menu, an "OK!" sound in Toad's voice will go off. A password screen will then become an option (only temporarily) in the "Clubhouse" menu. Here one can put in codes that admit players into specially designed tournaments such as the Nintendo Power Tournament, which was part of a promotional deal in Nintendo Power magazine years ago.
