Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. First off I'm heading to the local Metro train station as there are two Pokestops located there. I've come to the first one but how do I collect the items from it?

Answer: Swipe the circular image of the Pokestop to spin it

Pokestops can be found at many landmarks and public buildings, such as statues and churches. By visiting a Pokestop you can get items to use in the game including Pokeballs, potions, berries, eggs, etc. You also get 50XP points for visiting a Pokestop.
2. As well as getting some Pokeballs from the Pokestop I also got an egg. I put it in an incubator but what else must I do to hatch it?

Answer: Walk the required number of kilometers

To hatch eggs in "Pokemon Go" requires walking a set distance with the egg in an incubator. The distance required to hatch an egg is listed underneath it on the eggs screen of the game. The distance required is either 2.5km, 5km or 10km with the longer distance eggs containing better Pokemon.
3. As I leave the station a wild Drowzee appears. What do I need to do to catch it?

Answer: Use my phone's touchscreen to 'throw' a Pokeball at it

To catch Pokemon in "Pokemon Go" you need to 'throw' a Pokeball at them. You do this by using your phone's touch screen to move an animated Pokeball at the Pokemon. Make sure you're accurate with your throw or else the Pokeball will miss! Sometimes Pokemon escape from the Pokeball when first caught meaning you have to try again with a new Pokeball.
4. Awesome! Catching that Drowzee has given me enough XP to reach the next trainer level. As I'm now at level 5 I can join a team, which one of the following could I not join as it's not a real Pokemon Go team?

Answer: Astute

There are three teams players can join in "Pokemon Go". There's Mystic, the blue team led by Blanche, Valor, the red team led by Candela and Instinct, the yellow team led by Spark. Being a member of a team lets you interact with Pokegyms in the game.
5. I'd like to increase the Combat Power of my Raticate by powering it up. What do I need to do this?

Answer: Enough stardust and candy

Powering up a Pokemon in "Pokemon Go" increases it's Combat Power and HP making it more useful in gym battles and training. To power up a Pokemon you need to have collected the required amount of stardust and that Pokemon's candy, the amount is different depending on the sort of Pokemon and how strong it is already.

The amount needed is displayed next to the power up button on the screen that shows you info about that Pokemon. Stardust is earned when a player levels up, catches a Pokemon or hatches an egg.
6. Now I'm a member of a team I can battle and train at gyms. I head to a nearby monument where there's a gym belonging to my team! I want to put one of my Pokemon into the gym but there are no spaces left how can I make a space for my Pokemon?

Answer: Win battles against the Pokemon in the gym

The number of spaces for Pokemon in a gym is determined by the gym's level. To create a space for your Pokemon you need to win battles against the Pokemon already in the gym, this increases the gym's prestige and will eventually result in the level increasing creating a space for your Pokemon. Having a Pokemon in a gym gives you a reward of coins for use in the in game shop.
7. I've put my Meowth into the gym and now I'm continuing to move around and hunt for Pokemon. I've just entered a local park when a wild Pidgey appears and I manage to catch it. I've caught a few Pidgeys already and want to evolve one into a Pidgeotto, what do I need to have collected to do this?

Answer: Enough Pidgey candy

To evolve a Pokemon in "Pokemon Go" you need to have collected the required amount of that Pokemon's candy. You can get candy when you catch that Pokemon, hatch an egg containing that Pokemon or transfer that Pokemon to Professor Oak. Different Pokemon require different amounts of candy to evolve for example it only takes 12 Pidgey candy to evolve it into Pidgeotto but it takes 400 Magikarp candy to evolve it into Gyarados.
8. After catching the Pidgey I walk further into the park where a wild Mr Mime appears. Is it true that I can only catch this Pokemon in the wild because I am playing in Europe?

Answer: Yes

It is true. There are some Pokemon in "Pokemon Go" which are region specific, meaning they can only be caught in the wild in certain geographical regions. The region specific Pokemon are: Mr Mime, found in Europe; Farfetch'd, found in Asia; Tauros, found in North America and Kangaskhan, found in Australia/New Zealand.

Although it is not possible to find these Pokemon in the wild outside of their respective locations they can be hatched from eggs.
9. After the excitement of finding Mr Mime I finish my walk through the park and come to a rival team's gym. I decide to battle and send my Magneton in to the fray. Unfortunately it is defeated by the Golbat in the gym and faints. What do I need to use on my Pokemon to make it recover from its faint?

Answer: Revive

When a Pokemon reaches zero HP it faints and cannot take part in further battles. To heel it you need to use a revive item on it. A standard revive will restore half the Pokemon's total HP while a full revive will restore all the Pokemon's HP. The regular revive is unlocked at level 5 and the full revive is unlocked at level 30. Players get revives when they level up and they can also be found at Pokestops.

A potion can be used to regain the rest of the Pokemon's HP but it doesn't work if they have fainted.
10. I've had a fun time playing "Pokemon Go" today but now it's time to go home and finish stop playing for the day. I've just got one final question though, which company was responsible for developing the "Pokemon Go" game?

Answer: Niantic

Niantic was started in 2010 by John Hanke. The company has specialised in location based and augmented reality apps, both of which are key features of "Pokemon Go". Niantic announced in 2015 that they were working on "Pokemon Go" and the game was released in July 2016.
