Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. You play as the protagonist Robert Cath onboard the Orient Express, but you don't exactly get on the train in the usual manner... How does your character board the Orient Express?

Answer: Jumping onto the moving train from a motorcycle

It's not playable sadly, but Robert Cath jumps from the back of a motorcycle onto the Orient Express in a manner not unlike an animated action movie.

Nobody noticed the Cath jumping on, perhaps it was common in the 1910s to make a dramatic entrance?
2. In which compartment do you find your friend Tyler Whitney dead on the floor?

Answer: Compartment No. 1

This is the event which of course sets the entire game into motion. Tyler is found dead on the floor with several bloody gouges, and Robert takes his identity (and his jacket) to investigate the circumstances of his death.

No. 1 also becomes your compartment for the game, as it was Tyler's.
3. Which of the following passengers was the only person of the four to fall for your masquerade as Tyler Whitney?

Answer: August Schmidt

Not exactly the best example of masquerading as another, Robert actually is recognized as an impostor by a few passengers.

Of the three, only Anna plays along with the facade for a time. Milos believes Robert killed Tyler and tries to kill him in return before Robert explains the situation, while Kronos very casually reveals his knowledge of Robert's true identity in their initial meeting.
4. One of the keys to completing the game is getting a translation of The Firebird from the scroll that is among Tyler's possessions. Who provides you with the translation?

Answer: Tatiana Obelenskya

As the poem is in Russian, your two obvious choices to translate the scroll would be Tatiana and Alexei.

Alexei will refuse to translate the scroll for you, but Tatiana will agree to help you.

What makes it so important? The poem corresponds to landmarks such as Stonehenge and Mount Everest, which further corresponds to jewels you must press in order to unlock the Firebird.
5. The main objective in your quest is to recover the Firebird, a golden egg encrusted with jewels. But what are the jewels set into on the outside of the egg?

Answer: A map of the world

The world is clearly visible on the outside of the egg, but the other three options also tie into traits the object possesses as well.

The Firebird transforms into...well a bird, which happens when you unlock the egg via a code (but not in a grid) and which can be activated by a whistle.
6. We soon find out why Tyler wanted our help on the Orient Express, but why exactly did he?

Answer: To help finance an arms deal

Tyler was planning a pair of business deals to finance an arms deal for his Serbian friends on the train.

In short, to trade the Firebird to Kronos for gold which would be used as payment to August Schmidt in return for providing arms and explosives.
7. Your first clue to solving the murder of Tyler was an object left beside his luggage which had contained the Firebird. What was this item?

Answer: A scarf

Monogrammed with a W, the scarf belongs to Anna Wolff in one of the more easy puzzles in the game.

However, if confronted with it, Anna will deny the scarf belongs to her.
8. The Last Express is a game of intriguing characters with their own agendas, but Anna Wolff may just be the most intriguing of them all. We learn she is a spy, but for whom?

Answer: Austria-Hungary

Anna is easily my favourite character in this game. An Austro-Hungarian spy (although she considers herself Austrian specifically despite being born in Hungary), she's on the train to spy on and expose August Schmidt's arms deal to the Serbians which puts her into conflict with Robert.
9. The whistle to the Firebird is in the possession of French boy François Boutarel. What do you trade to him for the whistle?

Answer: A beetle

Boys will be boys. You can overhear François talking about finding the beetle but being unable to catch it. You can catch it yourself in the smoking car, on the table besides the window.
10. If all goes well, you find the Firebird. But where exactly is it on the train?

Answer: In Tatiana Obelenskya's bathroom

Anna had stolen the Firebird, but had given it to Tatiana for safekeeping afterwards after Tatiana's grandfather had a medical attack (you can overhear Anna asking her to keep something important right afterwards).

You can find the egg easily during the concert portion of the game. It's in the bathroom section of her compartment, in an alcove under the sink.
11. To escape from a police search on the train, you can hang outside your compartment in a cool scene. Doing it also has another purpose where you can spot Alexei Dolnikov doing...what?

Answer: Building a bomb

A childhood friend of Tatiana who turned into an anarchist, Alexei's plan on the Orient Express was to blow it up to kill Tatiana's grandfather who was part of the Russian aristocracy.
12. After Alexei's death at the hands of Count Obelensky in a panic attacked caused by a confrontation, what was his dying wish to Robert?

Answer: To get Tatiana off the train

Alexei and Tatiana were in love after being childhood friends, but Tatiana refused an offer to elope with Alexei in return for not planting the bomb.

While in the end he was determined to follow through with it, his dying wish was to see Tatiana unharmed. A wish that was tragically doomed to fail.
13. After the train stops at Munich, we meet the inquisitive George Abbot who later reveals himself as an English spy with an offer for Robert. What was that offer?

Answer: Amnesty for Robert in exchange for working for England

Abbot had boarded the train to find a Russian anarchist, but found the job effectively done for him by Robert.

Robert had boarded the train after being in trouble for being present at a murder of an Irish police officer, but Abbot correctly deduces he was innocent of the murder and offers to clear his name in return for using his talents for England.
14. After the Serbians hijack the train and kidnap the passengers, who kills Milos Jovanovic at the front of the train to finally end the hijacking?

Answer: Anna Wolff

Robert dispatches the other Serbians but Milos was able to hold him off, however Anna was able to shoot Milos and allow the train to continue on.
15. In Constantinople, you foil a last attempt by Kronos to steal the Firebird by activating it and causing to attack him and his servant Kahina. You and Anna escape the train but are astonished to see the train blow up very shortly afterwards. Who caused its destruction?

Answer: Tatiana Obelenskya

In a tragic end of the saga we see Tatiana, traumatized by the death of Alexei and in a trance afterwards, come across the weapons that were meant for the Serbians.

After saying to herself that the weapons must not be used and there must be no more war, she sets off the explosives and destroys the train while killing herself, her grandfather (Count Obelensky), George Abbot and the driver.
