Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Okay, let's start with an easy example, to get the ball rolling. The console is listed in brackets beside the clue. Project voice in a melodic way + celestial body (PS2) In this case, the answer is "SingStar" (quotation marks not needed in answers). Answer: Jet Force Gemini

"Jet Force Gemini", released in 1999 for the Nintendo 64, is a sci-fi shoot-em-up game created by Rare. It was criticized for its moderate level of violence, but generally received positive reviews. The cooperative gameplay element allowed two players to play through the storyline together at the same time.
2. 1:58pm, for example + a situation of danger (originally an arcade game)

Answer: Time Crisis

A classic arcade game, "Time Crisis" was first released for the PlayStation in 1995. The game has spawned several sequels, and also some spin-offs. Each of the games is classified as a 'rail-shooter', as the computer controls the path you take - you just sit and blast every hostile thing you see on the screen.
3. Group of allies + a stronghold + the first prime number (PC & 360)

Answer: Team Fortress 2

"Team Fortress 2" was released as part of "The Orange Box", a compilation of Valve's finest games, including "Portal", "Half-Life 2", "Half-Life 2: Episode One" and "Half-Life 2: Episode Two". The game took a detour from the usual life-like graphics, and instead made the graphics cartoon-like. One of the reasons for this is that it was difficult to express the characters and maps in real-life ways.
4. Deadly + there are ten of these in a game of ten-pin bowling (PS2 & XBOX)

Answer: Fatal Frame

"Fatal Frame" is the first title in a series of survival horror games. Each is based around the protagonist, usually a girl, who fights off evil ghosts using a 'camera obscura', a camera that can preserve the spirits of the ghosts in its film. Just thinking about it makes shivers run down my spine!
5. Excellent + break + male siblings (N64)

Answer: Super Smash Brothers

The classic N64 game that we all know and love. "Super Smash Brothers" was released in 1999 by HAL Laboratory, and has spawned two sequels thus far: "Super Smash Brothers Melee" for the Nintendo Gamecube, and "Super Smash Brothers Brawl" for the Wii. The object of the game is to fight other Nintendo characters and progress through the game, to eventually defeat the Master Hand.
6. Time-keeping device + tall structure (SNES, PS1, PC)

Answer: Clock Tower

Another survival horror game, "Clock Tower" takes a different approach to those in its category. The player must utilize the environment around them to hide and escape from the villain through the course of the game. The name is a reference to the ominous clock tower that looms over the mansion in which gameplay takes place in the first game.
7. An association of people in Medieval times + armed conflicts (PC)

Answer: Guild Wars

I couldn't resist putting this in. "Guild Wars" and its sequels are part of the highly successful franchise that almost rivals "World of Warcraft" in popularity. An expansion to the series was released in 2007 called "Guild Wars: Eye of the North", and is intended to act as a 'bridge' between the original series and the sequel, "Guild Wars 2". Perhaps the most unique feature of this series of MMORPGs is the absence of online gaming fees.
8. What you get if you press the long key on your keyboard + foreigners entering another country by means of force (originally an arcade game)

Answer: Space Invaders

"Space Invaders" takes us back quite a while, back to 1978, in fact. A mixture of "Breakout", "The War of the Worlds" and "Star Wars", this game became an instant classic. One of the key things about "Space Invaders" was the fact that the more aliens you shot, the faster the remaining aliens would move, so it was vital to shoot them as fast as you could.
9. Stringed musical instrument + The male protagonist in a novel (PS2)

Answer: Guitar Hero

The popular music video game that is rapidly building up a cult following, "Guitar Hero" sees players playing an electronic guitar in time with notes on the screen. As the player progresses through the game, completing gigs and unlocking new characters, the difficulty increases to that of, possibly, finger-numbing speeds. I just can't quite get the hang of it yet - I spend too much time looking at where my fingers are going than at the screen!
10. Stringed musical instrument + a toy musical instrument + abbreviation for 'that is' (N64)

Answer: Banjo-Kazooie

The classic game by Rare, "Banjo-Kazooie", released in 1998 for the Nintendo 64, has become a cult classic, having spawned several sequels for a variety of consoles. "Banjo-Tooie" followed in 2000, with "Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge" being released in 2003 for the Game Boy Advance, which took place between the events of "Banjo-Kazooie" and "Banjo-Tooie". "Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts" was released in 2008 for the Xbox 360, after Rare was bought from Nintendo by Microsoft.
