Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. One of the earliest fishing games for the Wii, which game was released by Activision in Late 2006?

Answer: Rapala Tournament Fishing

One of the downfalls of this seemingly fun, interactive game is the fact that it was released quite early following the game's launch. Because of this, the game was quite difficult to handle, and many times, claimed low scores from major gaming outlets.

Despite this, it was monumental in the fact that it was the first fishing game for the system, and it actually allowed players to cast a line and attempt to catch fish. It was released to North America in November 2006, just following the launch date by a mere nine days.

It wasn't released to other regions until March, the following year. The game was proceeded by other fishing games such as "Fishing Master" and the mini-game in the popular "Wii Play" collection- both of which were better received.
2. What was the first Tom Clancy franchise game to appear on the Wii?

Answer: Splinter Cell

On November 28, 2006, the first "Splinter Cell" game, known as "Double Agent", was released to players. Once again, it may have been to early, as at the time, many games were experimental and lacked an expansive knowledge of the Wii's handling and controls.

Although the ports on the Xbox 360 and PS2 (and later the oddly-different PS3 version) were somewhat well-received, the Wii version seemed to lack graphics that were up to par with other Wii games released at the launch. Regardless, the game featured many successful elements, such as the recent addition of multiplayer co-op (which came in "Chaos Theory"), and sold quite a few titles as a result. Oddly enough, the Wii version beat out the PC version of the game in terms of reception as the PC version seemed to be released with many bugs.
3. The game "Metal Slug Anthology" was exclusively released on the Wii.

Answer: False

Despite the fact that it was released on the Wii much earlier than the versions released on the PS2 and PS3, it was not an exclusive game. However, it was a much more highly-regarded game on the Wii. Despite the fact that it was released quite early in the system's run, it was well-received as it outlined the past titles in the "Metal Slug" series released on previous Nintendo consoles and arcade systems.

As well, it was one of the earlier titles in the Wii line-up to be usable with the Gamecube controller as well as the Wii Remote.

However, in using a Gamecube controller, players would lose the interactivity and revolutionary motion-sensitive gameplay styles they would have with the Wii-mote and Nunchuck. The game itself contains seven smaller games, the previous titles in the anthology, which are all available without having to be unlocked.
4. What is the North American name of the game "Eledees" (as it is known in Europe and Australian markets)?

Answer: Elebits

This unique game, which may have been the earliest sleeper hit of the Wii system, was released in December 2006 by Konami. The game is regarded as quite similar to "Pikmin" in the sense that small creatures with similar appearances are used. In the game, Elebits control power in the world and the protagonist must use a capture gun to retrieve the world's Elebits and return power to a blacked-out city.

The game was one of the earliest to get a good grasp on Wii handling and controls, and by May 2007, it was released to all regions. The game is also unique for releasing an edit mode, allowing a player to create their own stages, fill it with objects and Elebits, and fire away to capture them in an allotted time.
5. Which "Far Cry" game was first to appear on the Wii?

Answer: Vengeance

Released exclusively to the Wii on December 12, 2006, "Far Cry: Vengeance" was moderately-well received as it kicked off a generation of new first-person shooters for the system (along with the launch title "Red Steel"). However, many gaming outlets described the graphics as subpar compared to other systems and other games on the Wii. "Far Cry: Vengeance" has essentially the same storyline as "Far Cry: Evolution" (Xbox), but features new levels, vehicles, etc.

This is the first "Far Cry" game to be found on a Nintendo console. "Far Cry: Instincts" was canceled for the Gamecube in 2005.
6. The first strictly-golfing game on the system, even pre-dating "Tiger Woods" golf games was which of these?

Answer: Super Swing Golf

Created as a Wii version of the online game "PangYa", "Super Swing Golf" was the first Wii game to be created solely for golf. This was, of course, following the popularity and success of the golf mini-game of "Wii Sports". Because of the Wii's motion controls, players can actually take swings to shoot the ball.

As well, players can choose proper clubs, settings, and courses to play on. The game was known as "PangYa: Golf with Style" in Europe, retaining its original name. The game features story and free-play modes, and players can collect new clubs, caddies and features by spending Pang, the currency of the game, in a shop.

The game was released on December 12, 2006.
7. Which gaming series introduced an installment on the Wii known as "Smooth Moves"?

Answer: WarioWare

"WarioWare: Smooth Moves" was the first new game of 2007, and if you thought mini-games were something, then the 'micro-games' of this video game will be something else entirely. The micro-games of "Smooth Moves" are no more than a few seconds each, and they usually appear in groups that must be completed to advance.

Although up to twelve players can compete in the game, they must take turns, going one at a time with a single remote (which is known as a Form Baton in the game). The quirky game-play was well-received by many, and its many different styles of gameplay (split amongst a cavalcade of characters) clearly showed what the motion-sensitive Wii controls could do.
8. Which game, released with a Wii Remote in North America, featured Laser Hockey, Table Tennis, and Billiards?

Answer: Wii Play

Using Mii characters created on the Wii system, players could participate in various mini-games (nine, to be exact) in this somewhat-sequel to "Wii Sports", which was packaged with the system in North America. Although it wasn't as well-received as its predecessor, it quickly became a hit, partially because of the fact that it sold with the extra remote (which normally would have been two-thirds the cost of the game) and partially because players enjoyed "Wii Sports" so much. "Wii Play" quickly doubled the sales of the launch title "Twilight Princess", due to the fact that it was an early-released title in Europe as well. "Wii Play" was released in North America on February 12, 2007.
9. An Arabian theme was used as the setting of "Sonic and the Secret Rings".

Answer: True

Despite this game's vibrant graphics, many criticized the camera angles and over-abundance of unnecessary missions in this Wii title (the first to include Sonic). Regardless, the game was quite popular, and many were pleased with the style of gameplay.

The game followed Sonic in a fantasy, Arabian setting where he had to retrieve the Secret Rings for a mysterious djinn. Along the way, he would meet many characters who are staples in the "Sonic the Hedgehog" series in various roles (such as Sinbad).

This game hit the shelves in North America on February 20, 2007 with versions around the world following less than a month after.
10. Which snowboarding game was released on the Wii on February 27, 2007?

Answer: SSX Blur

"SSX Blur" was the first snowboarding game for the Wii, and because of the unique motion controls, players had to balance and bring precision to a whole other level. With twelve characters, numerous tracks, and technical tricks, "SSX Blur" held strong reviews, being the first downhill racing game since "Tony Hawk Downhill Jam", which was released in November 2006. "SSX Blur" was a Wii exclusive.

Other "SSX" titles have been played on the Gamecube and PS2.
