1. Where in the United States is Tennessee Tech located?

Answer: Cookeville, TN

Cookeville is located on I-40, 100 miles from Knoxville and 80 miles from Nashville. It is also about 100 miles from Chattanooga. The region is called the Upper Cumberland.
2. By what nickname are the sports teams of Tennessee Tech known?

Answer: Golden Eagles

When Tech added a sports program in 1925, the student body chose "Golden Eagles" as their team name.
3. What was the name of the original college that occupied the location currently called Tennessee Technological University?

Answer: Dixie College

Dixie College was first opened in 1912 as a religious school. In 1915, the State agreed to take over the school and it was renamed Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. In 1965, it achieved university status and was renamed Tennessee Technological University. Commonly called Tennessee Tech, the nickname has held since 1915.
4. What is the Administration building of Tennessee Tech called?

Answer: Derryberry Hall

The main Administration Building is called Derryberry Hall, and is named after Everett Derryberry who was the President of the school for 34 years from 1940 to 1974

The Roaden University Center is the student gathering area and was name after Arliss Roaden who was president from 1974 - 1985.

There is no Smith Hall. There was a Smith Quad which housed men's dorms and was name after the two presidents of the university who were named Smith.

The eagle was in fact stolen from the Monteagle Hotel in the 1950s. The governor eventually settled with the hotel for the value of the sculpture and pardoned the over-exuberant students who snatched it.

The dog was a local adopted pet of the 1950s students. Sadly, he was killed by a car, and the students buried him in the quad and placed the memorial in the quad. Years later, the University officials believed that to be a perfect place for a fire hydrant.

The students named the dog "Damnit" as President Derryberry would always tell it to "Get away, Damnit," as he went home for the evening.
7. What are the colors of the school?

Answer: Purple and Gold

Selected in 1925, purple and gold represent the colors of the region: purple hues over the mountains and gold for both the golden suns and the goldenrod that grows freely around the campus area.

Answer: Oracle

Since 1924, the student newspaper has been called the Oracle. The yearbook is the Eagle and the local community newspaper is called the Herald-Citizen.
