OHIO claims to be the 'Mother of Presidents'. Since William Henry Harrison was living in North Bend when elected, they claim 8 presidents coming out of Ohio.
Mother of Modern Presidents: or "Mother of Presidents" is sometimes used to refer to Ohio. Seven United States Presidents were born in Ohio. They are Ulysses Simpson Grant (Point Pleasant), Rutherford Bichard Hayes (Delaware, OH), James Abram Garfield (near Orange), Benjamin Harrison (North Bend), William McKinley (Niles), William Howard Taft (Cincinnati), and Warren Gamaliel Harding (Corsica, now Blooming Grove). William Henry Harrison, born in Virginia but settled in Ohio, is also claimed as one of Ohio's own. http://www.netstate.com/states/intro/oh_intro.htm
Virginia is known as the mother of presidents. Eight U.S. presidents were born in Virginia: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, James Monroe, John Tyler. William Henry Harrison, Zachary Taylor, and Woodrow Wilson. Most of their Virginia homes can be visited today.
Ohio's claim trumps Virginia's. Seven presidents hailed from Ohio, in the sense that their adult lives and reputations were forged in Ohio, while Virginia claims only six, as does New York.
It is Virginia. Not only do I live here and I know, but i'll provide a list below:
Virginia, 8 Presidents:
George Washington
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
William Henry Harrison
John Tyler
Zachary Taylor
Woodrow Wilson
A mother is the one who has the baby. For example, Ohio claims Harrison was from Ohio, but he was born in Virginia. So they're asking "Mother" of Presidents, not "Stepmother" of Presidents.
But, Ohio does have seven:
Ulysses Grant
Rutherford Hayes
James Garfield
Benjamin Harrison
William McKinley
William Howard Taft
Warren Harding
