Termite mounds can be called a fortress. Some even look like castles and are almost as hard as cement.

I was going to suggest the Barbary Macaque, but they don't actually live in the military base. link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gibraltar_Barbary_Macaques Most fortresses will have populations of many sorts of animal, from mites upwards. Deserted fortresses will have the larger animals on the whole. The Tower of London has its ravens, however, who are definitely animals living in a fortress. link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_London
