Do children have a faster digestive system than adults?

The digestive transit time varies considerably depending on the composition of the meal. With an infant fed exclusively on breast milk or formula, it will be quicker than an adult eating a heavy meal with low fibre content. Also (obviously) the digestive tract of a child is physically shorter in length.
