He was s friend of the band members from Creedence Clearwater Revival.

They got the name of the group from a friend of theirs, Credence Newball, by adding an extra "e" to make it look like they resemble a creed. The second part of their name came from a TV commercial for Olympia beer and its "clear water" taste, and lastly it came to represent a "revival" of sorts for the band's commitment to one another, hence the name Creedence Clearwater Revival.
