Tsutomu Yamaguchi was a double Hibakusha ("person affected by a bomb"). On 6 August 1945, he was on a business trip in Hiroshima when the first bombing occurred. Yamaguchi spent the following night in an air raid shelter before returning home to Nagasaki where he arrived on 8 August - one day before the city was hit by another US atomic bomb.
The two atomic bombings in Japan at the end of World War 2.
Tsutomu Yamaguchi (1916-2010) survived both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki attacks. He is one of about 70 people thought to have been affected by both of the explosions, but the only one officially recognised by the Japanese government.
