Today approximately 3% of the earth's crust is covered in glaciers or about 10% of the land mass.

On average, scientists predict that about 4% of the total mass of the glaciers have been lost between 2000 and 2010. So in 2000, the glaciers covered about 11% of the land mass. This may not sound like much, but the rate of loss is estimated to be double what it was from 1980 to 2000. Scientists also estimate that about half of the glacier mass from 1850 has been lost at this point which is scary.
