Lord Kitchener's face was on the 1914 British posters encouraging men to sign up to fight for the Great War. The sign is rather similar to the US version of Uncle Sam with a finger pointing out from the sign. Women would also give men outside of uniforms a white feather to shame them into enlisting in the military.

Alfred Leete did the Kitchener poster, perhaps inspiring John Montgomery Flagg's more famous opus.
