Does Canada have more beavers than the USA?

It is estimated there are around 15 million beavers in the USA and there are 6 to 12 million beavers in Canada. So by those estimates, there are probably more beavers in the United States. Before the fur trade of the 16th and 17th centuries, there were far more beavers. The only part of North America that does not have beavers is in the California and Nevada deserts.
