When was the first telephone book issued? How many names did it list?

The first telephone book was in New Haven, Connecticut on 21 February 1878 with a total of 50 names and businesses that had telephones. The list was not alphabetized, nor were there any numbers in it! The first switchboard would not be invented until 16 years later. Quite remarkable.
