Real Tennis is a completely different game to Lawn Tennis. Lawn Tennis is essentially the modern game, although it is played on a variety of surfaces, including grass, clay and artificial materials. Real Tennis is a retronym for an ancient game that is played indoors, with small solid handmade balls not unlike cricket balls. Wooden rackets are used. Real Tennis (also Royal Tennis and Court Tennis) is the original sport from which Lawn Tennis is derived.
