A running track is an Oval which is an Ellipse or Elliptical
1. Standard IAAF / Olympic / NCAA, 400 meter running track
A Standard 400-meter running track is the quintessential oval shape that most of us think of when we hear the word "track." This size is regulated by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), and it's the minimum size required to host official competitions.

Interestingly, the geometric name for a rectangle with semicircular ends is a stadium. Although it is also referred to as a pill, discorectangle, obround, or sausage body. It definitely is not an ellipse, which is curved all the way round, instead of having straight sides.
