Who is considered the father of modern chemistry?

The consensus is the French chemist, Antoine Lavoisier (1743-1794).

Some of Lavoisier's achievements include:
* Changing chemistry from a qualitative to a more quantitative science;
* Identifying the role of oxygen in combustion;
* In 1778 naming oxygen as an element;
* In 1783 recognising hydrogen as an element;
* Helping create the metric system;
* Producing the first comprehensive list of elements;
* In 1787 predicting the existence of silicon;
* Discovering the law of conservation of matter.
