It was Lynn Nolan Ryan Jr. (1947-), better known as as Nolan Ryan and nicknamed "the Ryan Express."

In 1979, Ryan was signed to a four-year deal by the Houston Astros, worth $4.5M.

Ryan had a 27-year pitching career in Major League Baseball. He pitched right-handed with his deliveries clocked at over 100mph (160km/h).
Ryan is the all-time leader in no-hitters with seven, three more than any other pitcher.
